Is this pen knife legal in the uk,my 21 yr son would like one for scouts and canoeing?

Hello,I agree, the blade length is not illegal, it is perfectly legal to carry around, however the sidekick has a lockable mechanism for both the blade and the saw. For this reason, it is illegal as quoted in the official police resource website for England and Wales "A lock knife is not a folding pocket knife and therefore it is illegal to carry around such a knife regardless of the length of the blade (if you do not have reasonable excuse)"Referencing from: https://www.askthe.police.uk/content/Q337.htmWith all that in mind, In my opinion, using the sidekick for Scouts and such is a reasonable excuse to be carrying around a lockable blade because of it's many uses. It is only illegal to carry in public without good reason. You can keep it at home, or if you have a good reason to have it on your person in public. Onus is on you to prove good reason and technically you can be arrested for having it on you. I'd chose a multi tool with non locking blades under 3" as these are legal to carry without good reason.
