Human v human/machine ... what could possibly go wrong?
I know this game has been out for many years but I’ve only just got around to getting a copy of it … and, to be honest, I’m glad I did. For me, it’s a little akin to “HomeFront, the revolution”, with a similar game play. The beginning gives you the story of what happened over the years to get you to where the game plays. Basically, set in the future where the some humans have been surgically enhanced with parts of their bodies creating stronger, faster people, these people are called augmented. Only some crazy man causes destruction using the augmented which cracks the trust of humans towards augmented. You play as Adam Jensen, an augmented special agent who is given a task of investigating crimes of terrorism, be that by human or augmented. Taking you through several missions in order to stop a major terrorist attack which will widen the divide between humans and augmented even further. To the point of the annihilation of the augmented. But can you, as Adam, find and stop the ring leader before the attack happens? That’s the story, sort of, and once you start playing you’ll soon get the hang of what you have to do, what you have to find and how you should travel around in order to crack the case. The story is pretty good, much better than some games I’ve played, and the gameplay itself is nice and smooth. Although scrolling through your items, such as weapons, ammo and other things you carry, can be a little distracting at time. But pick the right weapons, load them with the right ammo -emp bullets, armour piercing or standard bullets, and more – and you’re away. The mission, and there’s several of them, are a mix of stealth and all out shooting everything in sight … for me, I found it best to use stealth on as many mission as you can as the ammunition can be a little scarce at times, especially at the beginning. More ammo can be found along the route, taking from those you’ve killed or knocked out, (if you knock them out they can be revived by their friends) Throughout the game you have to collect things in order to proceed, codes, passwords, credits and more, all helping you get through the game. (Codes/passwords can be found online if you want to play it that way) But if you want to go it solo and can’t find the codes you can always try and hack the computers. The protagonist, (You/Adam)has some serious power and is helped along the way by others and given side mission along side the main mission, all found using the ‘map’ In all, a fine game with a good dystopian story line regarding the trust between man and machine (sort of). There’s plenty of mission, good graphic/gameplay bringing several hours of fun. With difficulty levels you can make it easy or hard … the choice is yours. Well worth the £6.83 (at time of writing) without a doubt.

Better than expected!!
Ever since this was shown at E3 i was so excited to play this game! Was given this by my girlfriend and after 13 hours of playing i can honestly say this surpasses the previous game in many ways. First of all the graphics. The game looks insane and on 1080p you can see crisp backgrounds and character models look tidy too; most notably on adam jensen. Lip sync can play up a bit however but never pulled me out of the experience. Gameplay has improved and feels more fluid and less clunky, you still have the option to go Stealth or go guns blazing or you can even go Stealth and then go guns blazing or vice verser. Gunplay is smooth and you have the ability to upgrade it's ammo type, barell e.g silencer or muzzle and add different sites. Augmentation are still the highlight of the gameplay there are over 20 different types of augmentations which once you begin with can go on to a whole tree of that augment. My personal favourite play style is stored always begin stealthy and if things prove too difficult then to bring out the shotgun. The story however will admit ends abruptly but still felt the story as a whole was really good as it brings up current real world issues such as terrorism and cyber terrorism such as the illuminati. The cyberpunk style is still a personal favourite as it's nice to play a game which doesn't focus on fetch quests or grinding to get to higher level or lies to you about the whole game rhyming with no mans lie. I honestly enjoyed this game alot and if you loved the previous game you'll love this just as much or even more! Going invisible and nano punching 3 enemies at once never gets old.

The potential is there, but yet still can't help but let you down.
I was very much looking forward to this game. I even pre-ordered it, which in hindsight was a big mistake. The game does have a lot to like. It has excellent world and level design, one that begs to be explored in full. The amount of variety you have for completing each level is excellent. The game's central premise is very thought-provoking, centering around a societal divide between humans and augmented humans, with "augs" being victimised and segregated from the "natural" humans. The game also contains some very interesting and engaging subplots and side missions, and, while my play style prevented me from trying them all, the new experimental augmentations you receive are fun to play around with. Where the game fails primarily is it's story. Compared to it's predecessor, Human Revolution, the story lacks in intrigue and fails to maintain genuine interest throughout. This is probably due to it having a weaker narrative than it's predecessor. There are also few developed characters, with some of the more interesting ones only appearing a handful of times. For me though, the games main weakness is it's ending. It's very clear that Square Enix want more of these games, but it still is no excuse for just ending the game just as things start to finally pick up steam. It feels as if the developers couldn't come up with an interesting third act, so they just didn't put one in, they just leave it with the characters hinting at what they need to do next. Not to mention many of the games more intriguing questions are left unanswered. If you are a fan of the Deus Ex series, then it it worth a playthrough, but honestly, I can't see myself sitting through this again.

A very good addition to the series, with some minor (superficial) problems
Deus Ex: MD is a good entry into the franchise. I have not yet finished it, but have so far been positively surprised with the quality and quantity of content. This is true, especially after coming in from playing Mass Effect Andromeda, which disappointed me very much with its mediocre to bad writing, quest design and characters. Anyway, graphically and musically I think Deus Ex 4 is a very pretty game. The synth music fits the atmosphere well. The city environment of Prague is detailed and expresses a tangible sense of place. You can, for example, break into various apartments and learn details about its inhabitants, the world and its history, or maybe pick up a random side quest. NPCs react to your actions, albeit not always realistically. For instance, they are quick to forget my dangerous or irrational behaviour on the streets or when breaking into peoples' homes. This, however, is a common issue with open world games. Moreover, the cyberpunk atmosphere is clearly more subdued than in Deus Ex 1 and Human Revolution. This is due to the fact that the city of Prague doesn't lend itself that well into this futuristic genre as Hong Kong, Paris, Detroit, or Hengsha did. Historically it feels like we are still in the present day with some superficially added neon lights and mechanical body enhancements. I feel that they should have chosen a different setting with a more cyberpunk atmosphere. The gameplay is a mix of stealth and gun combat where you can decide the path to your goal that you prefer. The choice between lethal and non-lethal is great. I personally like to make as little noise as possible and have as little impact as I can when I play the missions. However, I occasionally switch to lethal weapons like the shotgun or grenades when things get out of hand. I think they have nailed it with the gameplay here. You can upgrade your weapons and make them more effective. Furthermore, the augmented powers you can unlock are numerous, though you will likely only see a handful of them in one playthrough. I like to emphasize hacking, which is represented as a minigame where you have to reach a node and "capture" it in a virtual reality interface. This allows you to bypass many enemies, cameras and parts of the level. You can thus complete an objective without anyone knowing you were even there. When you can pull it off it feels very satisfying. Story and dialogue is not bad. I have not played through the game yet, but the story definitely feels like a bridge between the previous game and the next game. You play as Adam Jensen again, whom I find has become a bit stale. His voice becomes grating after a while and he doesn't seem to be able to express any emotions whatsoever. They could have started with a new lead character I think and the game would have been better for it. Some old characters return from Human Revolution, but also Deus Ex 1. I will not spoil the story, but it is definitely a pleasure to see that the world domination conspiracy Leitmotiv is still a staple of the series. To conclude, I think this is very much a game worth a purchase, especially at this price where you get a large amount of good quality content for less than 10 pounds.

An Immersive sci-fi film noir
This game takes off right where its predecessor left you and man does it feel good to be back as Adam Jensen in one of the most immersive video game worlds. I loved this game and despite various shortcomings I still give it a good 4.5/5 or an 8-9/10. For me the best elements of this game is the stealth and the world building. Level design and the amount of available pathways and options is so fun that I reload over and over just to explore all the different routes. If you are a stealth pacifist style player that loots every drawer then you will get a lot of mileage from this game. World building and atmosphere like with HR is among the best out there, the blend of traditional architecture with sci-fi additions, the colours, the moody lighting and film noir feel make this game very immersive. I had a lot of fun playing detective especially on some of the side quests. The little story lines are essential to the full experience imo. They offer a lot of depth and insight into what is going on with the main story and are very fun overall. If you are more combat focused then you will complete the game a lot faster. The good news is there are a lot of new combat orientated augmentations available since HR and now I get to play the game again and explore all the options I have in regards to killing everyone ;) The negatives for me are a result of business and marketing choices rather than the fault of the game designers themselves. The ending of the game feels rushed and reminded me a little of the Assassins creed franchise in that they leave you with an unsatisfactory conclusion just to set up the next game, or in the case of mankind divided sell you more episodes for £9-10 each. Basically it feels like you get a worse product than what the game designers could have given you due to business greed. The parallels between this and the topics explored in the game are uncanny ;)

One of my favourite games of the year so far......
I wasn't to sure what to expect from this game having never played the earlier release, so I was pleasantly surprised to find my self playing a game that mixes combat, stealth and a bit of detective work thrown in for good measure. For me that's what I like about the game the most, it's your choice, want to stay in the shadows and observe your targets movements and then go in for a silent take down or take them head-on guns blazing, you can search for a quiet way into a room or kick the front door in, spend the time searching every "nook and cranny" or just head straight to your next objective, you can deal with any situation how you want to. Periodically the game story mode reaches a fork in the road forcing you to decide one way or another, your decisions along the way effect which ending you will see so multiple save files are a must if you want to fully explore this game. The graphics, audio, story line and character control are all presented well. But this is one of those games that starts you off with plenty of nice features and extra abilities but soon takes them all of you leaving you with the bare basics and having to work towards regaining them again as well as several new mods. Off course if this sounds like to much trouble you could always head to the online store and purchase upgrades - but where's the fun in that? Although it's more than possible to play the game without playing the previous release (I did!) I would recommend taking the time to watch the catch up video included in the extras so you can catch up on the story so you know "what's what" All in all this game was a very good gaming experience and is one of those rare games where I am found my self working towards that ever elusive platinum trophy......

Still basking in the golden afterglow of the past...
The first Deus Ex game, as far as I'm aware only available on PC, was so good that like, I suspect, many others, I've gone on to get those that followed but with such a diminishing return that, about half way through this one, I just got bored of crawling through endless ventilation ducts and avoiding guards who behave in exactly the same way every time. At first I thought that it might just be me getting old but then I had a quick return to Dishonored to break the tedium and realised that the fault lies with the game: it's just not that enjoyable. Despite the fact that everyone in it takes themselves incredibly seriously and it's interspersed with cut-scenes laden with portentousness, I came to the point where I completely lost interest in doing what I was supposed to. In another games where this is the case, the side-missions can be some compensation but here, although there are side missions, none of them seem to amount to much, are that different in terms of narrative arc as the main missions or are that compelling. It doesn't help that all the characters, whether in the main or side missions, seem so unlikeable and uniformally one-dimensional with it. Nor does it help that, really, the augmentations on offer are all pretty boring and, in some cases, versions of the same thing. In the end, I just lost interest in it all and so stopped - something I've never done before. So, if you're reading this after the release of the next Dishonored game and haven't got it yet, then my advice is don't waste any time in getting it. Even if it turns out to be a let down after the first one, it's still going to be better than this game. If you really do feel you want to buy this game, wait for a good chunk of time to pass so that you can get it at a knockdown price. 2025 should be good.

Sexy looking but then....
I love a good stealth game, I had been like warm towards the other Dues Ex games but read good reviews. Howe er maybe I have been big time spoilt with the recent Hitman or the me ores of the multipath Dishonoured, maybe I have been seduced by the tight Sexy shooters of The Division or Star Wars Battlefront. Trouble is this game does neither very well. The stealth is frustrating with opponents spotting you too easily, the disposing of bodies etc pointless, the gunfire battles clunky and over too quick, not to mention the controls and upgrade system, ...hold this that n that to do that... holidays that, then that to do this... crazy!!! I found the tutorials helpful but often forgot the chain of clicks when the gun fire started/urgency upped. Mabe I shouldn't have believed the hype, maybe it is the emporer's new clothes as many reviews STILL give high scores and over look these issues.

Amazing Sequel
The game improves everything Human Revolution did. The open world is big enough to have things to do almost everywhere, compared to other games where the maps are huge but not much to do. There are more than just one way to make your way through the missions, wether it's gun blazing or in a stealthy way. One thing that is very clear, is that this was a very clear middle part on an intended sequel, and while i found it extremely enjoyable as it's own, many people will find the conclusion lacking, and i can see why, especially now since the future of the franchise is in the air. Very fun and fascinating game overall.

Day one edition in italiano
Ho acquistato la versione inglese del gioco e mi è arrivata quella italiana. Errore o scelta deliberata?
