Q: What about the screws and I have been out half the day trying to find short but stubby screws to fit the screw holes!!!!!!!?

I don't think screws are what you need (the head would be to small so wouldn't hold the castor down, as I was making small movable platforms I used two 30mm No 8 nuts and bolts on each castor.

Q: do they turn horizontally as well (i.e. around their axis)?

The two with the brake are fixed and the other two swivel on there own axis independently.I used these on a 200kg fish tank and they worked perfectly if this is of any help.

Q: are these castors suitable for a heavy recliner chair

I assume a heavy recliner is not more than 800Kg but two things to bear in mind. The fixing holed are very large (about 10mm).The other thing to think about is the total weight of the chair is suspended on 4 small points as the wheels are only 50mm diameter and 25 mm wide this is like walking with a pair on stiletto heel shoes on a carpet they are likely to make marks or stick in.

Q: These 'rubber' wheels seem nearly hard plastic. I'm replacing similar 'rubber' wheels which damaged my wooden floor. Will these ones damage my floor ?

These are not bad at all. Indeed, it is a mix of rubber and plastic and if I was you, and had a wooden floor to think about, I would pay a bit more and go for 100% rubber.Also, it depens of what the wheels are carrying, weight wise. If it's not a heavy object, then go for it. Again, this product is very well buid so do not take it the wrong way
