Fine collection.
Beautiful presented with the other box mimicking that of a cabinet door.. The quality of the books is stunning in quality, which is worth paying for a hard spine in these books instead of a soft cover book. This will without doubt worth every penny spent on them if you can afford. One little thing I would say to anyone reading them. Do remove the paper outer shell to preserve it from getting damaged. As I am sure if you have children reading them, it keeps it in pristine condition. Unfortunately children don’t think like adults in that way. Collection is great for anyone if all ages looking for a really well printed set, with its own outer hard backing in a beautiful red binder. No faults in quality which you will find hot for yourself is a nice piece of literature to have at home to display anywhere.

All good
Purchased as a Christmas present with some trepidation given the reviews about misprinted pages. Took off the cellophane and flicked through each book - all looks fine. No issues with the box either. In which case - really good bargain for a timeless series. Will update this review if recipient advises any issues on closer inspection.

Very good, but writing style best suited to children, and 'angry teen' Harry is grating
Got these as had already seen the films and enjoyed them, and wanted to know what I was missing from the books, since films never have as much detail as the written form; was hoping to better understand the psychology of the characters. Was glad to get them in a self-contained box as it keeps them tidy and stops them getting too out of shape, and the design is interesting to look at. I'm an adult, so probably not the target reader; I noticed that immediately when I opened the first book and read the first few lines, the writing style is definitely for children/teenagers. However, I decided to keep going and got over that pretty quickly, as the stories are very good and I could picture it given I had the films to help visualise it in my head, and I'm a fan of fantasy/science fiction so once I get into the world of a story I'll keep going if it's interesting. I was disappointed to find that the entire set of books are all from the single viewpoint of Harry - we never find out what Hermione or Ron or anyone else are thinking (unless they speak), only what Harry surmises they are thinking if he is interested enough to do that. Harry was not my favourite character in the films, it's actually Hermione and/or Snape, and then probably Ron, so I was sorry I wouldn't get to spend any time in those characters' heads instead. It was interesting to note the differences between the books and the films - the book characters are a lot more compelling and realistic, and Ron in particular gets a much better deal (his character was really hard done by in the films). My main complaint is that, from about book 4-5 onwards, Harry becomes a total ****(insert preferred unflattering word here); maybe others/teenagers can relate to that well enough but my angry phase only lasted a week or two in my youth, Harry's lasts about 3-4 years, so a LOT of reading about it; it's a real slog. He is infuriating, and unfortunately there is no respite from it since he's the only viewpoint available. In the films this was really toned down, I never even noticed it, so it was totally unexpected in the books and extremely unenjoyable. I did consider stopping reading because of it, I often took long breathers, and I think I skipped or skimmed a lot of those bits, since they go on, and on, and on.... ad nauseam.... of Harry being angry (everyone is at fault except him) and self-pitying. It was a big struggle to read those parts and I would never re-read them, they made the reading a chore instead of an enjoyment. But, there was relief in the form of pretty much any character besides Harry who appeared, so I managed, just about. Overall would probably recommend to read as a mid-teenager; unfortunately I was already an adult before these came out. Don't think I will ever read these again, or maybe just the first few books and then the last one, and in particular would skip the bits where Harry is alone in later books as could not stand to read all that angry/angsty Harry ever again. Will probably give them to my niece when she's old enough.
