Want this for my son’s school bag will it leak if laid down ?

No as I leave mine in my gym bag in the boot of my car and it’s never leaked. Just make sure you screw lid in tight.

If I put it in the freezer will it make the water become ice?

Im not sure, id imagine it would. However its unnecessary, i just fill it the night before, refrigerate overnight and the water stays really cold for hours. I took it to the beach recently, and despite the sun being on it all day, the water remained really cold. Highly recommend this product.
