Plenty of features and accurate too
This Excelvan Laser Distance Meter comes smartly boxed and in the package you get the laser measure, a pouch with belt loop, wrist strap, 2 AAA batteries and a user guide. The unit measures 118x 54 x 26.5 mm and weighs 128g. I have also recently been using a distance meter made by a large German manufacturer. The first thing that struck me is the quality, tough, feel this meter has plus the keyboard is a raised membrane type so it should resist the ingress of dust etc. There's a handy built in spirit level too plus a tripod screw mount and wrist strap attachment. The 4 line LCD display has a backlight and offers good contrast even in bright light. The two AAA cells are easily fitted into the rear battery compartment. The quoted accuracy of this meter which can measure up to 70M (other models are available) is + or - 1.5mm. The first thing that is immediately obvious is that this laser measure offers more measuring options than my big brand version. The options are - Distance; Area; Volumetric; Pythagorean Indirect Measurement; Maximum and Minimum. There are a number of on screen indicators to assist you plus the keyboard functions soon become intuitive. In addition, you can take the measurement from the front of the device or include the total length including the unit. I compared the accuracy with my other laser meter and both devices gave readings within a mm or so leading me to believe this is an accurate device. The acid test is this as good as the similarly priced meter I already owned? Well, if I had known what I know now I would have bought this meter because it actually does more, has a better display, seems just as accurate and offers extras like a case and tripod mount etc. as standard. Although the extra features such as the Pythagorean measurement are not essential for my purposes they've also awakened my interest in measurement techniques. In summary, a really well made, feature rich and precise laser measure. Recommended.(Disclosure - I received a review sample - the text above represents my honest opinion of the product).

Terrific (and 40m is future proof) for my simple needs
I will never use anything other than the point and measure function, so the unit is over specified for me. The primary reason I chose it was because the last four measurements are displayed, but the 40 metre might be a bonus in the future too. I wish I'd bought it a couple of months ago before measuring a wide window for a blind; my attempt to get accurate internal measurements with a tape measure strung between the sides was never going to work.I've only had it a couple of days so I can't comment on longevity, but I've given it five stars for convenience and accuracy.I had used a tape measure while trying to put together a simple 2D CAD floor plan of our house, but it was useless for our old and sometimes slightly wonky walls. I knew most of time I would take a couple of readings for each distance and make a choice, so I've been grateful for the four-measurement display and three decimal point accuracy. As far as I can tell, the figures are millimetre perfect because the final plan is remarkably correct between three floors - a couple of times I was stunned by how consistent the figures (and CAD layers) were between the floors. In case it helps other novices like me wishing to do the same, and who have a lot of recessed windows that interfere with getting room dimensions, I ended up using a length of mildly heavy (without kinks) plastic tablecloth masking taped to the wall above. Bay windows and French doors were the worst!

Surveyor Friendly
Easy to use. Great functionality, size does not take up too much space in my bag when on site. Perfect for lone working. Accuracy over larger areas-good.

Better than Bosch one!
A friend advised me to go for another brand (Bosch) which was way more expensive but I'm delighted I went for this one instead. It works perfectly, was less expensive and for the same price its measuring distance is wayyy more. Its very easy to use and stores the last few measured distances so i can do about 5 before needing to write them down each time. The best part is, you can change the units between Metric and Feet and Inches which the Bosch apparently CANT do! Its a no brainer for me as an interior architect, very happy with it.

Excellent value for money.
It's a little larger than you might think, it's well made and acurate. I bought this as a spare, my primary laser measurer is the Distro and there is a clear difference in quality, however, this is 25% of the price and is excellent value for money.

Very good purchase
I've now received my Excelvan laser measure and it is just dandy. It displays the previous three measurements along with the current measurement. It has a nifty wrist lanyard, and the unit sits very comfortably in the hand. I verified several measurements (room length/width) with a tape measure and it's pretty accurate. Certainly accurate enough for estimating how much carpet or wooden flooring one needs to budget for. The instructions, in reasonable English, are adequate, but brief. However, I'm not interested in all the Pythagoras stuff it can do. I just wanted an easy to use, cheap laser measure. There is a tiny spirit level built into the side, and I can only suppose this is for keeping the unit absolutely level for consistent results. There's a button for setting the reference point, either front or rear (default). All in all I'm very pleased with my purchase.

Easy to use and fast accurate measurements
Haven't used this that much so far but it's so easy and appears to be pretty accurate. The laser is bright and works indoor and outdoor in bright light. I imagined it would be slightly fiddly to get a reading unless it was dead level for the laser to bounce back but it doesn't making it quick and easy to use.You can set where on the Meter you want to take the reading from (back, middle or front of the unit) so you can be really accurate.Just generally a Great bit of kit.
