By far my favorite slip lock pliers!
These things are the best I've ever used! I love the fact that these slip locks don't come loose, or jam like cheaper ones do. The locking button feature makes them easy to adjust and keeps them at the size you set them at. You don't have to fight with these; they just work!"You pay for quality, because quality pays for itself."Just a few jobs in and Irwin's are already my all time favorite handy-man tools.I have the tools pictured in this review, plus a couple of hammers, several sets of vice grips, squares, T-squares, plus probably a few other things by Irwin in my tool box. They just don't let you down!

Not as good as Knipex Cobras, but more than good enough for non-professional use!
I have the 8 and 10 inch set of Irwin Groovelocks, as well as Knipex Cobras and the Knipex Pliers wrench. I will say upfront that the quality of these Irwin pliers is a definite step down from the German-made Knipex pliers. However, given that these cost less than half as much as the Knipex Cobras, I still believe that they are a great deal and a great tool for homeowner use.If you are planning to use these pliers heavily in a professional setting, I would recommend getting the Knipex pliers instead.Functionality-wise, these are almost identical to the Knipex Cobras, and they actually have a slight advantage in that you only need to push the button in to enlarge the size of the pliers. The Irwins have a ratcheting mechanism so that when you want to make the jaw opening size smaller, you can simply push up on the top handle without having to depress the adjustment button. On the Knipex Cobras, you need to push the adjustment button in to enlarge AND to reduce the size of the pliers. Knipex has since come out with a new model called the Cobra Quick-Set which has the same ratcheting feature as the Irwins, but those are more costly than the already expensive standard Cobras. The 10 inch version of the Irwin GrooveLock pliers will open to over 2.5 inches, and it's even large enough to remove Honda/Toyota oil filters. I frequently use it for that purpose, and it has yet to let me down (FYI, don't use pliers to put oil filters on, only use them for removal). The jaws on the Irwins have worn only very slightly after about a year of light use, and I feel that these would last a long time with homeowner use. However, with professional use, I could definitely see the jaws getting worn down in a short period of time. The jaws on the Knipex Cobras are noticeably more durable, perhaps due to better heat-treatment or stronger metal alloys being used.Overall, if you're planning to buy these for homeowner use, I would highly recommend them, and for around $20 for this 2-piece set you can't go wrong. I much prefer these to the traditional slip-joint style "Channel-lock" adjustable pliers.

Knipex Alternative
My boss has a set of Knipex, I couldnt justify the price of the Knipex and so I got these as a plumber.Ive used the Knipex pliers plenty, they are great pliers and according to my boss have lasted 20 years, and the jaws still look decent, a little worn but impressively less than what you would expect for 20 years.Ive had this set for a couple months now, jaws still look great, only small signs of wear despite being heavily used everyday for the past 2 months. I like that with these you don't have to press in the button to make the jaws smaller (unlike with the Knipex) and can just slide the jaws together. My boss also occasionally grabs for these over his because these have a slightly wider mouth, either a good thing and feels like they grab more, or a not so good thing as they dont fit into quite as tight spaces (just good to be aware of). They have very little side play, again pretty similar to the Knipex.I cant really comment on the longevity of these (but will anyways). They likely wont last 20 years, and Im fine with that seeing as these were 1/3 of the cost of 1 singular Knipex plier/wrench, and they feel like they will last a good amount of time.Overall these feel great, and work great. The design of the jaws makes it so that once they grab whatever you are wanting to grab (usually a nut, bolt, pipe, etc. etc.) you just need to keep applying force to the top handle and you wont lose purchase.Id recommend them, a great step up from standard "channel lock" design for most applications.

Good pliers
These pliers have great grip with the notch in them. Used them for some pipe fittings I normally wouldn’t use “gripping” pliers for.
