This is a book worth having
This is not a glossy, high production value cookbook. But it is well worth having for its easy recipes which are, nevertheless, delicious. So glad I found it!

Very authentic
I grew up in Delhi, India and used to go to the Moti Mahal restaurants a lot. I tried many of the recipes from the book and they came out tasting exactly as I remembered. If you don't have a tandoor, a charcoal grill will work just fine. An oven may work, but only as a last resort. Some recipes I did not remember eating at the restaurant, but as soon as I took a bite it brought back fond memories. Be sure to grind your own spices in a coffee grinder (use a separate one just for spices). All the spices will be available at Indian/Pakistani stores. The quality of the printing is not very good and the pictures are black and white. As a coffee table book, I would not rate it very high. As a recipe book, it is really awesome!!!

New Delhi
I lived across the street from Moti Mahals in New Delhi India. I miss that place so much. I loved the ice cream vendors and the mint chutney from Moti Mahals. Oh, what I would pay to have Moti's deliver some chicken Tikka, Buttered Naan, and Dahl Mak-ni...Namaste, My Indian Friends.

THIS IS NOT A HARDCOVER
The book is perfectly fine, but it is a trade paperback with "French flaps," NOT a hardcover. Even though it has a hardcover price! If you are ordering for a recipe (and you don't mind trade paperback cookbooks), it is slim but will probably be okay. But if (like me) you are ordering as a gift, don't expect a nice hardcover cookbook - it is very slim and a small trim size.

Waste of Money
Don't waste your money on this book! I have been eating at Moti Mahal restaurants in Delhi since 1962 starting with one in Daryaganj and met Kundan Lal a number of times. He was a consummate restaurateur. At this time the Moti Mahal in Greater Kailash is our favorite and every time I visit Delhi now I make it a point to eat there at least once. My wife and I love to cook and while we have our favorite recipes we like to try out new ones. Just reading the recipes in this book showed us that the author has held back from providing authentic ones. I completely get it if the recipes are secret and they can't be shared. In that case don't write a book and scam people out of their money. We have books from other authors and their recipes are authentic. If you are worried that people will stop visiting the restaurants because they will cook the dishes at home please understand that people go to restaurants for a complete experience. If you are worried that other restaurants will steal your recipes please understand that every restaurant has it's own theme and specialties.

An absolute hidden gem, truly mouthwatering reading and cooking.
Was looking for the original recipes of my all time favourite Butter chicken and Tandoori chicken. As there are many modern fancy cooking books available with beautiful layout and pictures but wanted some original time tested recipes. Always a fan of Sanjeev Kapoor and his impeccable modern art of Indian cooking, expert advises and detailed illustrations , but was looking for something original. After some search on the Internet, come to know about the Legendary Moti Mahal restaurant and its founder Kundan Lal Gujral, who is believed to be the founder of many popular restaurant dishes. Truly believe me the book is a gem and a must have for any one who loves Indian food. First few pages gives detailed recepies of various chutneys, pastes and on the top Garam Masala and Tandoori masala and advise on cooking in a oven instead of tandoor. Recipes for chicken, keebab, mutton, fish, mushroom, paneer, pakora's, biryani, naan, kulcha, ras malai and many more. All recipes with original names. On the top there is a glossary in the end that gives ingredient's names in English as well as Indian. Feel like visiting Moti Mahal. Bought one book for my mother as well.Highly recommended.

... in coloured pictures to show what the dishes look like when cooked
Tasty recipes but the book could have been in coloured pictures to show what the dishes look like when cooked.

Pretty Good book.
I have eaten at Moti Mahal restaurants and I have been a fan of their freshly cooked spice mixes and food. This was the reason I bought this book and I haven't been disappointed at all. There are numerous fresh spice pastes, mixes and recipes that you can learn from here.A pretty good book I would say.

True recipes
Every recipe I am trying out is turning out good. The recipes are so simple, that at first I thought the author must've hidden some tips. But I'm glad he hasn't and the 4-5 dishes (veg and non-veg) that I have made till date have all turned out really good and appreciated by my family.

Good Recipe Book..
It's a good recipe book.. can't wait to try them out.. however it would have been so appealing and helpful had there been pics of the recipes. Besides, I was also hoping for more recipes in this book especially vegetarian..However, it's a good book nevertheless.
