Super Easy to Use
No problems whatsoever to use. You can record multiple movies on the provided thumb drive before transferring to the computer. The software is professional quality and allows for intuitive and quick modifications (trimming the video and adding audio effects). Don't look for this to magically make your VHS quality video equal to Blue Ray or anything like that! It does a fairly decent job with the quality, and you CAN 'upscale' the video quality. But don't think of it as better looking (i.e. making grainy video crisp and clear); think of it as better QUALITY video (i.e. Still grainy, but more pixels per square inch). Still, overall it does exactly what I wanted and is easy to use. Highly recommend for digitizing and saving your VHS, DVD, Blue Ray, and whatever video you can plug in with S-Video or RCA connectors. Also, the software is pretty top-notch. Can use that for editing audios, as well. Or creating videos (to include photo slide show) and adding audio (dubbing music or narration).

Saved all our old home movies
Had hundreds of movies on various media, hi 8, super hi8, vhs, beta. My hubs wasn’t convinced this would record satisfactory, but I bought it anyway. He has transferred most of our archives and loves the results. We have adult sons and have been watching their toddler days ( which at our age we forgot) on thumb drives inserted into our TV.The recorder is easy to use, attach the cables and insert a thumb drive and your videos are transferred in real time. We did set timers to stop the recordings because we didn’t know the length of many of our tapes. But this wasn’t inconvenient.

40 or so video conversions in and...(updated again)
the flash drive has stopped working. The converter itself is very very easy to use and delivers very decent quality MP4s, video and audio. The capture to the flash drive included with the system was also great. That made it easy to just transfer all captures from miniDVs (so far) to my desktop (windows), and I was able to move a few files at a time over. After I captured and moved about 40 files, the flash stopped being recognized by the converter and my desktop. Good thing all files were moved, but now I have to buy and format a new flash drive as I have many more tapes to convert. Stay tuned.Update: New flash drive purchased ($13) - exactly the same as provided by the vendor. Worked with the converter out of the package, did not have to format. Began capturing again and all was well for about 10 or so more captures. Captures of a few hi8 tapes went well, quality was good. Then, the system just stopped working. It would not power on. It's a brick. I have requested a replacement which is supposed to arrive in a few days. Stay tuned.Update: The new system arrived within a few days and the return went smoothly. The new unit completed the rest of our hi8 tapes (nearly 100 in all) with no problem. One thing I did notice is that high action video is jerky. Sometimes, not always. The more action, the worse the jerking. The viewfinder video on the camcorder is fine, but the jerking translates to the MP4 video. That might be due to my 30 year old camcorder or tape degradation or both. The S-video didn't work at all. However, seeing as I spent about $280 with LegacyBox converting 20 miniDV and hi8 tapes, and I spent $200 on this setup, I saved quite a bit of $$$ converting the rest of the tapes myself.Others have slammed the software...I'm not even bothering with it, so I suppose I could've purchased the system without it. Today, I'm converting a few hi8 tapes that were not successfully converted by LegacyBox. So far, so good.If someone would figure out a system to convert old film reels with video AND audio for this price, you'd make a fortune. Even LegacyBox can't do that...video only.

Great Item work well easy to use LOVE IT
Ok so one important thing to do is make sure you have a working VCR or Camcorder before you get this otherwise you won't be able to do anything. All of my equipment did not work so I had to buy some used machines to make my project. Anyway, that said the converter is terrific and super simple to use. I bought the bundle edition of the version 3 converter. So glad I got it. I converted VHS tapes as well as H8 from my camcorder with no trouble except for one thing. Make sure you use the cables they give you. I had a couple of composite (red, white & yellow) cables from other equipment and figured all these cables are the same. I tried it and I only got audio on the converter no video. After fooling with all the settings and getting nowhere, I changed cables to the one that came with the converter, and bingo problem was solved. The software that comes with it is actually fairly simple once you figure out how to use it. I had no clue at first so I went online and checked all over but everything was a little too advanced for me. Then I found one clip that really was great for a beginner like me. I will paste the youtube title below. This was so helpful to get me up and running on the editing part of my project. Anyway, this whole project is pretty time-consuming but easy to do. Well worth the effort. Good Luck, here is the youtube infoThe Basics of Video Creation using Video Pad Pro (Professional) by NCH Software Part 1

Surprisingly easy to make digital copies of videos
I rarely write reviews but my experience with this product made the difference. At first, I had 2nd thoughts about keeping it due to the price. But after setting it up with my video recorder and trying it, I was amazed at how easy it is to either set it and forget it to record the whole tape or simply press the record button to start and stop recording to make individual video clips. The quality of the video is fantastic. Don’t be thrown off by the stretched monitor view, it doesn’t record digitally that way. Lastly, another thing that impressed me was how quickly I received a reply to a quick question via email. I received a reply within the hour from Tyler and that really sold me.
