Great vacuum! Not a bad mop, either!
NOTE: My first vacuum was dead on arrival resulting in a ONE start review. My replacement was pretty great, so this is a new review. There is a lot to cover with this vacuum, so I am breaking this review down into several pieces.PACKING / INSTRUCTIONS (2/5) – Packing is nice and secure. Expect that even the worst delivery driver will not damage it. It comes with a very large instruction booklet because it’s printed in several languages. There isn’t a whole lot of useful information inside. It also comes with a quick-start guide which will mislead you into trying to download an abandoned app directly from the website. So, even if you change the security settings on your phone so that you CAN download the app from the website, create an account, and log in – you will then be greeted with a message that you should download “the new app”.The old app is a blue logo on a white background. The NEW app has a white logo on a black background. If you are reading this – throw the quick start guide away and just go download “the new app” before getting started. Proscenic loses points for this process. They should only have ONE app in the Play store, and the quick start guide should be a link to that, not their website! Also included is a handy dandy cleaning brush and hair cutting utensil (nice), two mopping pads, a remote, an extra air filter (the first is pre-installed), and two AAA batteries.Worth noting – some users were angry that the vacuum does not support 5Ghz WiFi radios, only 2.4Ghz. If you have only one SSID for both 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz bands, you may be in for a bad time. If you want to save yourself a lot of frustration, consider creating two different SSID’s on your WiFi router. Then before you begin working on your vacuum, connect your phone to the 2.4Ghz network. You can switch your phone back to 5Ghz later, but your Proscenic can only use 2.4Ghz.ACCESSORIES (5/5) - Included with the vacuum is: a handy dandy cleaning brush and hair cutting utensil (nice), two mopping pads, a remote, an extra air filter (the first is pre-installed), and two AAA batteries. While the brush seems kind of silly, you will find that it’s great for sweeping our your dirty dust container.SIMPLE VACUUMING (5/5) – The dust-bin is very easy to install with a satisfying click and the air filter is well protected so that you won’t need to replace it all the time. Opening and closing the dust canister is also very easy. Simply tell it to “go” and away it will go. My old vacuum was a bump and go. Meaning it never knew where it was or where it was going. The Proscenic has a laser on top that is continuously mapping its environment. So there is no need to create a map of the room. Just let the vacuum do that for you. Within two auto-clean runs around my house it had already mapped my entire first floor and all of the obstacles in it’s away. No slamming or smashing into walls and furniture!Full disclosure, I only have hardwood floors. But this vacuum was designed with the ability to climb nearly a full one inch (assuming that is for rugs). My old robo vacuum could never conquer the ¾ inch rise between my dining room and kitchen. The Proscenic leaps it with ease. The large rugged rubber tires are great.Pet hair is a cinch and although there are three modes of power for the vacuum suction, I have never had to move it off of the low setting. This also keeps it running very quietly. And wow, it picks up quite a bit! Even though we had just swept the room a few hours before, this little vacuum still managed to fill the container about 1/3 with dust, hair, and some glitter. About the only thing that it didn’t pick up 100% of the time were pine needles, which is only a seasonal annoyance. Another issue with our older robo vacuum was loose cords and wires. The Proscenic seems to roll right up onto cords and clean over and around them without sucking them up and getting stuck. Also, as soon as you connect the charger and set it on the floor, the vacuum finds it and adds it to the map. If you ever tell it to go home – it will power off the suction and quietly sulk away.MOPPING (3/5) – My wife kept insisting that she doesn’t mind mopping. She probably doesn’t want to be bothered with trying to get the Proscenic to do it. But I was determined to make it work! This is another area that the instructions could have been better. Mechanically – the mopping attachment is great! You need to slip a little rag like cloth to the “mopping attachment”. It secures very nicely with Velcro. Then you need to attach that to the bottom of the dustbin. The dust bin is also home to the mop water reservoir. This lead me to think that dirty mop water was going to be dumped into what is otherwise a dry dustbin, but that is not the case. The mopping function only sprays water onto the floor, and then drags the rag overtop of it. The instructions are clear, “do not wet the rag in advance”.So how well can you mop a room by simply spritzing water and dragging a dry rag loosely over it? Fairly well, surprisingly. The issue with the mopping function is in the design. The vacuum attempts to spray liquid within the boundaries of the wheels so that it doesn’t drive through the water. But – eventually the vacuum needs to stop, make a 90 degree turn, and continue on. And yes – it will slip!! The worst slips occur when it is attempting to cross the room, because while it slows down to take turns, it also tries to take off quickly for long strides. If it tried to crawl before running, that would prevent this issue. A firmware update down the road might resolve that. The biggest lessons to be learned with mopping are 1) do not add slippery cleaner to the water container, and 2) do not increase the flow of water. I initially tried to add some Murphy’s brand pine soap to the water container and the results were bad. My vacuum couldn’t get out of its own away. So I dumped and rinsed the container several times. Next I tried just a few spritz of generic anti-bacterial cleaner. Then it was fine, even on my kitchen tile which is VERY slippery. Wanting a more intensive cleaning I increased the water flow using the app (mid-job). The result was a wet mess and the vacuum eventually gave up, went back to the charger, and mumbled something incoherent (it was mad). I have found that the best routine for mopping is to use the default minimal water flow, and have it cover the same area twice in a row. The result? About 90% clean! But hey, keep this up and you won’t be mopping by hand any more.Another thing worth mentioning is that you can fill up the water container, attach it, and then tell the vacuum to both vacuum AND mop. It will vacuum the area completely, and then go back and mop it.THE APP (4/5) – I am being generous with my review of the app, because I feel like most of the competitor apps are pretty lousy. Aside from the fiasco of “which app is the right app” in the app store – the process of signing up and logging in is pretty easy. I was annoyed that the password cannot contain ANY special characters, which seems really insecure. And since the password is masked as you are typing it, you may not even know what password you have entered unless you are paying close attention.Once I had the app installed and I was logged in, I repeated the process on my wifes phone (logging into that same account) so that we could both log in and use the vacuum. No issues there! As mentioned earlier, this vacuum will map its environment on its own. Once that part is done, the app will take a guess at defining separate rooms. Then you can re-name those rooms into things like “bedroom”, “living room”, etc. What is more difficult is changing those rooms. After a lot of trial and error I found that the little pencil symbol is only for changing names. And once you have a room displayed, you need to click the Zone button to start drawing lines through rooms. Not the most intuitive way to handle that function! By drawing lines I was able to separate a few rooms into multiple rooms, and then combine those slices into larger rooms so that my dining room and living room (which are connected) are defined correctly.I also have that awkward rise between my dining room and living room which I named “ledge” and now I can tell the vacuum to clean one side or the other, and it won’t have to run back and forth climbing and jumping off that ledge. Oddly, even though it knows the ledge is there, it will still climb it – then turn around and wiggle until it hits the edge – then back up – and then launch itself off, before turning around and climbing back up on it. I have no idea what this functionality is, but it seems to be intentional. Almost as if it’s checking to see if I installed a flight of stairs there to throw it off!Now that my map is complete, I can pick a room from the app and say “clean that” and off it goes. It will announce something out loud, clean only that area, tell you that it’s done, and then dock itself back into the charger. Simple – and effective! It’s sometimes hard to hear what the voice is saying. It’s pretty loud (you can disable it) and it reminds me of the voice inside of a car wash. The best functionalities of the app are the map itself (watching your vacuum run through a room, leaving a visible trace to show you where it is), and the PAUSE button. If you get a phone call or you want to watch some TV in that room, you can just press pause, and the vacuum will come to a very abrupt halt. Press the button again, and it will get back to work. You can also redirect the vacuum or change its orders at any time. For example, I can start in the living room and then change my mind and make it run to the bedroom instead. There is also the ability to add daily routines and put them onto a timer. While I never set the date or time on the vacuum, it picked that up when I put it on my WiFi network. So I did some tests and they came out really well. I said “vacuum this area at 10:00AM” and then “mop the kitchen at 11:00AM”. Done – and done!ALEXA FUNCTIONALITY (2/5) – The ads from Proscenic make claims that this is a smart vacuum and you can connect it to your smart home. I have Amazon Alexa and so I gave it a shot. I was a little lost because there aren’t clear instructions on how to make this work. The app will tell you to link “Smartlife”. What they mean is to add a *skill* in the Alexa app. After I got the “Smartlife” skill installed (why isn’t it called Proscenic?) I renamed my “M8” device to “vacuum” because I am not sure how I am even supposed to pronounce “M8”. But now, what are the commands? The only thing mentioned in the skill on the Alexa app is “turn M8 on” and “turn M8 off”. Having renamed mine, I yelled out “Alexa, turn vacuum on”. Alexa said “Okay”, and the Proscenic went off to work vacuuming the whole area, or until it ran out of juice. What else does it do? That’s anyone’s guess, and I blame Amazon Alexa for that. The entire Alexa skill library is very much undocumented.OVERALL (4.5/5) - Overall - I am very pleased with this device! I cannot in good conscience give it a 5/5 due to some of the failures and false starts, but I would certainly recommend this to others ahead of other makes and models.

Best value robot vacuum out there!
This is our SECOND Proscenia vacuum robot. We have owned our M7 for over 2 years now, and surprisingly enough the battery and the device are fully operational, but we decided we wanted a new one so we can run one to mop, and one to vacuum. The M8 is SUPER silent, there are 3 levels of vacuum speed, and even at the highest it is much quieter than many other robots out there. The suction strength is incredible, and even though you may think your house is clean, when this is done cleaning and you look at the amount of dust, hair, and hair follicles that it captures you will be grossed out.The new proscenic app is also MUCH improved from the previous version, as the robot is cleaning the map is updated real time, you know, this bad boy has lidar and multiple sensors, the accuracy of the map is incredible.A few tidbits:- Our house is 1000 square feet- The battery at full force lasts a full vacuum run, which is about 65 minutes.- We have mostly tile and hardwood floors, it never hits any snags or stops workingWe are REALLY happy with the purchase and continue to be loyal proscenic customers.

Very smart mapping!
Just setup and run this vacuum bot after returning the Bissell unit, which was a stupid head banging bot. This one actually mapped out the house while vacuuming and allowed me to set no-go areas. Vacuuming patterns were great. After 2 hours of running the power was just under 50%, it would go and recharge, then continue where it left off. Nice!I tried setting it into an unmapped area and the "visual camera" easy navigated the unit back to the dock.So far, I am impressed! Manual is a bit lacking, but I quickly figured it out.

will not map entire house
I'm really tired of buying robot vacuums that say they have mapping technology and then they do not work. I had high hopes for it because a friend recommended it. After over 6 times of auto cleaning, it just will not do my entire house. It's not even 3000 sq ft, so I'm not asking for miracles. I also did not give up, but contacted customer support and David had no ideas but to move the charge station. Hmm, I had a vacuum there for three years and it was never a problem. But he never answered me again.

Great product backed by an accommodating company.
Been a huge fan of Proscenic. We purchased the M6 back in 2021. When we called Proscenic looking for replacement parts that were no longer manufactured, they offered us an upgrade at a significantly fair price for the new M8.. and this machine is even better! It last longer, handles obstacles better, and even seems to recharge faster than our original.

Only has one brush arm?
Junk ... Already having issues. 2nd one I purchased. One brush arm. I purchased one before ... Jumped through hoops to not get a robot on email let alone someone in person. "Fan issue" on M7. Since no one could help I purchased a M8 ... Thinking it was better ... Nope HORRIBLE. I just recently purchased the M7 self vacuum bag charger a few months ago ... Guess what M8 doesn't fit that M7 bag charger.Very disappointed... They did give me a break on price but I didn't know the M8 was a cheaper version. Always nice to know afterwards. If this once has issues I'm done with Proscenic. Yes I only use on tile floors not carpet. I never got to use the mop/wet vac option. 👎
