Using this with new Google Nexus 4 Android
I won't reiterate all the reviews discussing sound quality, etc. Its a Pioneer..sound quality is fantastic so no need to rehash that.I will point out you do NOT need to purchase a separate wiring harness. This comes with one already. Also purchase that $11 USB adapter here at Amazon (link below). Since the USB ports are in the back of this unit (very clean install!) you can drill a 3/4 hole in your glove box and snap it in and run the cable into the rear of your Pioneer during installation..its PERFECT for a hidden USB port for running memory sticks. I'm using a 32GB stick for music and nobody knows..plus you can lock your glovebox for a little more added security.***Ok I want to give a voice to those who want to pair this with an android phone; specifically what we DO and DO NOT get vs. iPhone/iPod and how it works with android.First, this unit works very well with an android, don't let the fact Pioneer only talks about iPhones scare you.You can pair up to 3 devices; I'm just using one. Once you pair, it shows as "nexus 4" on the display. The mic I mounted to the back of my steering column. GREAT sound quality; no one I talk to thinks they're on a speakerphone.Another cool thing, you start your car and when radio comes on it automatically connects and you're ready to recieve phone calls or your bluetooth music app on your phone starts playing.Bluetooth Phone Android Functions- Downloads last 50 dialed calls- Downloads last 50 recieved calls- Downlaods last 50 missed calls- Downloads all contacts/phonebook- Switch incoming call off bluetooth back to phone (for privacy) by touching one button on the radio so the person's voice isn't coming out of car speakers- Ignore call- Answer call- Pick up call while on phone (call waiting)From those 4 options, you can simply use the dial to find a person to call. Very cool and easy. No need to touch your phone. Android phone BT services all work perfect here.**Very cool feature regardless of what input source is playing (radio, bluetooth, CD, USB, etc.) the audio will mute and the phone will ring through the speakers and you can take the incoming call by touching the big silver button (or right arrow on your steering wheel control).Bluetooth General Audio Functions (Android)- Play - (automatically starts) click BAND button on radio or on steering wheel control to resume play if paused.- Pause - hit BIG SILVER BUTTON, move to FUNCTION mode and click again. in the future, just click FUNCTION on your steering wheel control and hit the RIGHT arrow to pause/play- Stop - hit function twice on steering wheel remote and hit RIGHT arrow or hit BIG SILVER BUTTON on radio, move to STOP screen and hit it again- Rewind - hold down DOWN radio lever (or hold down RIGHT arrow on steering wheel remote)- Fast Forward - hold down UP radio lever (or hold down LEFT arrow on steering wheel remote)- Next Track - tap DOWN arrow (or tap RIGHT arrow on steering wheel remote)- Previous Track - tap UP arrow (or tap LEFT arrow on steering wheel remote)Using any music player app on android the head unit will control those functions on your phone. Super cool.Bluetooth Pandora Audio (Android)- Play - (automatically starts) click BAND button on radio or on steering wheel control to resume play if paused.- Pause - hit BIG SILVER BUTTON, move to FUNCTION mode and click again. in the future, just click FUNCTION on your steering wheel remote and hit the right arrow to pause/play- Next track - tap DOWN arrow on radio (or RIGHT arrow on steering remote control)Note Android Pandora will NOT display song title on the head unit or give you access to your mix stations or allow you to use the "up" and "down" arros to thumb-up or thumb-down tracks like the iPhone. However, those features are good enough for me to enjoy Pandora completely. Don't really miss those features..just happy I can play/pause and jump to the next track all from my steering wheel controls.Bluetooth and Navigation- Using the default Google Maps and Navigation the radio mutes whatever is playing and you can cleanly hear navigation instructions. This is great; just toss the phone in your center console or on the seat and you still get voice turn-by-turn directions and you don't have to be distracted looking at the phone.Bluetooth General- Shuts off/pauses music when you get out of car (and radio goes off) and resumes automatically when you get back in! Probably a standard feature but I love this. I don't have to do a thing..just grab my phone and go..the music pauses until I'm back in my car again and the radio is on.So, in summary, I highly recommend this unit, and I would also add the following accessories to make it completeUSB adapter link:PAC 6' USB Cable with Mounting Bracket USBCBLwireless steering wheel remote:Pioneer Cdsr100 Steering Wheel Remote Control

I'm in Love.
Update September 9, 2012Information regarding Iphones/Ipod:So I had a friend connect his Iphone via usb. It work quite nicely! This particular product displayed the song titles and artists on the unit (using Pandora). It almost makes me want to buy an Iphone just for this unit, haha. The sound is rich and awesome. Again, this unit is definitely Iphone friendly (a bit more than the android).Apparently with some of the radio stations, there's a "TAG" option where it allows you to tag a song that you like, save it to your ipod (I own the ipod nano 5th gen) and purchase it later. I think that's pretty awesome!Information regarding Androids (Specifically Droid 4):So I just recently upgraded to a Motorola Droid 4(owners, they just upgraded software to Ice Cream Sandwhich). Bluetooth pairing is quick and almost instantaneous as soon as the unit goes on. While using Pandora or Slacker radio, the unit still doesn't read song titles/artists like an ipod- but I'm still quite satisfied with the sound quality and ability to skips songs.______________________Update August 7, 2012Sorry I haven't posted a video. Several people have beaten me to the punch via youtube. Pretty nice videos too!______________________May9, 2012Radio Installation: (skip to next paragraph for feature reviews)First of all- I love youtube. I watched a video at least 15 times to see how to install a radio (Because it was my very first time installing it myself). I asked myself. "Why are they charging so much and it only takes them less than an hour to install? It must be a simple process. I'm the kind of guy who likes to make sure "things are done right." It took me about an hour to install it- but well worth the money I saved. Bestbuy was planning to charge me $100 for the receiver installation and wiring harnesses ($60 for the receiver + $20 for wiring harness+ $20 for DIN casing). I did the whole thing for about $20 (wiring harness + DIN case).Feature Reviews:My Car: 2002 4 dr Honda Accord SEWhat I love-BluetoothThe sound on is great (stock speakers). It's not to loud. I placed the mic in the middle and hid the wires. I called my dad and he said I sounded clear. (Don't worry. I'll post an actual video demonstration really soon)It also loaded my contacts! It was so easy picking up and hanging up a phone call. You can look up contacts on this this. The moment you disconnect your bluetooth, I don't think it saves your phonebook. It will only show if your phone is connected.Pairing the phone and the receiver was easy. I made the pin on the receiver simple. I used the phone to find the receiver and paired it up. All done!-HD RadioWOW! Going from stock radio to HD radio is FANTASTIC! HD is FREE. This thing turns AM to FM radio quality, FM to CD quality, and HD channels to...well, HD. There is definitely a noticeable difference in sound quality. Bear in mind, I'm sticking only to my stock speakers (pioneer brand! so happy)-Pandora, Slacker Radio, Amazon MP3They all run awesome with bluetooth connection on my Droid 3 phone! At first it was buggy, but they just updated software for the droid 3 (May 8, 2012)...runs very nicely. You can also use an AUX in for direct connection. It won't read the song titles unfortunately. If you have an Iphone, the manual said it should read it. Sorry...can't give you the the review about the Iphone. You can change songs with the radio. No need to mess with your phone while driving!-Dual USB portsAWESOME! I plugged my ipod in. It read the songs, sound is superb...and it charges the ipod! I did mistakenly buy two usb extensions because amazon recommended buying two of them with this purchase. It turns out the receiver already comes with one already. So just BUY ONE. Runs awesome though! You can use the other usb for a flash drive to play more music.-Color CustomizationFUN! Sooo many colors to choose from! There's a "scan" option which constantly changes colors....I find it extremely distracting, but it's there for you. It's quite bright, but I don't think it's blindingly bright (depends on the color I suppose). You can definitely see it during the day or at night. You can mess with the contrast level in the options menu-SAT ReadyThis is just to notify you that it is READY, NOT BUILT IN.Overall Receiver OperationI think it's quite simple, yet great! I pretty much messed with this for about an hour to get comfortable with using it. Very easy!LCD screen. Like others said, the clock is small in the bottom right- but you can fix that by making the time and date the Background. It looks nice! Big and definitely readable, haha.Remote Control Works well. Buttons are easy to figure out too.Sounds Options:Bass Boost, High Pass Filter, 5 preset band equalizer, 2 custom equalizers (for your preferences), Low Mid High Loudness featureI've only turned up the volume to 15 with Powerful Preset Equalizer, Mid Loudness, No bass boost. Sound is awesome! The nob is pretty nice...easy to navigate with it. Setting up the tuner for my favorite radio stations was a breeze.Detachable faceplate. Awesome for security purposes.ConclusionThis looks sexy and sleek with a black and silver look. The color customization makes you admire it even more.Sound is far more superb compared to stock radio.Sorry for the long review. I just wanted to cover as much as I can just to give you an idea of how much I love the receiver and its features.I'll post a video eventually so you can see it for yourself. Thanks for reading this review and good luck in finding one the fits your needs!______________________

Good enough
I love pioneer decks. I've tried them all, and pioneer has always been the best. 2 things that bug me about the head unit. One is the lack of voice controls. In previous models, you could tell it to play an album, artist, dial a number, call someone , and it was the best bluetooth voice command system i've ever experienced. Why would they remove such a great feature? 2nd is the bluetooth streaming. Don't get me wrong, the audio is great. My problem is that says that it reads the tag info (avrcp) and it doesnt. It can control my player (skip, previous, fast forward etc) but track title, artist, or album doesn't display. These aren't really deal breakers, but it prevents me from giving this head unit 5 stars.
