An Absolute Unit
I'm conflicted about this piece. On one hand, it's very sturdy, made from solid blocks of aluminum. The hardware is decent quality but I'd love to see either carriage bolts or screws with a wider head to spread the load, and it will bite into the aluminum a little. No biggie. It was able to mount to my rear seat middle headrest like I wanted, and while the open rails leave the unit infinitely adjustable, I think it could be reduced in bulk by about 10-15 percent to streamline the whole product. My purpose was to mount a little action camera facing back from that rear head rest. This unit was the perfect solution to my whacky problem, but it is just so thick and chunky, if you don't have a ton of clearance around those bars, above-below, all around, there's a chance you'll have trouble fitting it. I'll keep it and maybe grind some parts down to make it work for my needs, but for real, save money and make a slimmer, mini version of this. Maybe a few holes in the center and on the ends for mounting, but that's all it needs. 3/4"x5/8"x7" would be perfect. Slots cut for hardware adjusting don't have to run across the whole thing, and the little clamping blocks don't have to be such an Absolute Unit. It works just fine, no problem with function. It's just a little bulky. Simple to use even if a little fiddly. If you're clumsy and tend to drop little parts that have to be held with screws in them, consider assembling in stages to save yourself frustration. And working over something that won't eat the screws. :]
