Fun For Adults, Too!
I posted about this calendar on social media when I first heard about it, and one of my followers gifted it to me! I have had so much fun waking up each morning and opening a new little door. I'm only halfway through the month, and I already have plans to get one of the other national geographic Advent calendars next year, I'm having so much fun with this. So far, it has been a really interesting mix of polished stones, crystals, a geode fragment, and lots of fossils like an urchin and a bivalve. The kit comes with a little magnifying glass and dig tool, and also a little bag to store your treasures in. A handy chart on the side gives you a little guide so you can figure out what the days find is and learn a few interesting facts about it. I have told so many people about this. Can't wait for my big dig kit I get to open on day 24!

AMAZING Educational Gift - that brings joy DAILY during Dec
I bought this for my 4 year old gdaughter and she asolutely loved it. We talked every day and she shpwed me her new "jewel" or rock. All of the adults were very impressed with this gift. I worked at a Montessori School for 15 years and i am so thrilled with this item - I am gifting one to each of the 3 classroms this next year - and all her cousins!

Unique
My youngest son loves rocks and this. Each day a surprise. I wasn't expecting the items to be as big. It has been a great learning experience for my son and each day he learns something new about the item. It offers a range of bright colors and each is shown uniquely. However, the day day left something to be desired. I expected something hidden where you would have to break open to see what eas inside, like the pictures showed. Instead it was a unique piece of chalk. The chalk looked cool, but that was about it.

Nice set
The first week or so we got mostly all the nice polished rocks, which I think most purchasers are going to be expecting to be in every day. After that, we got the “earthy” fossils. The “dig” they advertised on the box wasn’t much, but we still got a good rock from it.

Box Assembled Wrong-Messed Up Sequence-BUT THEY FIXED
It's a nice idea and the rocks are decent, but they need better quality control in assembly. The box was assembled wrong with the tray of rocks turned rotated 180 degrees so that the first door contained what was supposed to be the culminating rock (which you carve out), but the magnifying glass, and bag you were supposed get at the start was at the very end. We also didn't get the tool to extract the "final" rock until later also. Many of the other doors didn't physically match up with the compartments beneath, so the whole thing became irritating rather than fun.-UPDATE: Nat Geo actually contacted me and offered to refund--so excellent customer service. Changing one star review to five for that. Product is fun when working properly.

Perfect for any rock collector
Bought this for my rock crazy kid. Since it's Dec. 9th I let her open the first 9 to catch up and she absolutely loves it. You get nice and good sized pieces. 100% worth the money. This advent calendar is fun, has good instructions, has a nice Veriety and the packaging is also quality.

A little disappointed
My son has recently been interested in rocks, so I thought this would be a fun advent calendar for him. While we have enjoyed it, we have been a little disappointed in the specimens; many do not look like the pictures inside the box which has made identification harder than it should be if the samples aren’t labeled. I am not seeing the value as some of the samples are small and dull, compared to what was advertised.
