Super interesting to read, great to learn about what makes a great college essay!
This is a fantastic book for learning about what makes a great college essay. I love that there is a profile about each author as well as a review of each essay. You learn a lot about some of the qualities an admissions counselor likes to see in a college essay. This book also gives you great ideas for topics to write about.

Very well written and not boring at all!
I'm glad I found a recommendation for this book online! For those looking for good writing tips for college essays, this one is a must! The book is not boring, very well written and it brings great examples of success! Highly recommended!! (Note: When you read it with attention you can extract from it a nice portion of knowledge. It's not a "step by step" thing, it's something for those who can read beyond words. I'm not a Harvard student, but I wish one day I can get there.)

Good but not outstanding collection of essays
I think the idea of collecting the essays from applicants admitted to Harvard is an excellent one. I got this book after reading two winner essays from a Newsweek book on essay writing for high schoolers. Now, those winners really impressed me. The ones from this book, however, are not at that level, fortunately. They are a bit contrived. In fact, some essays seem like they got a lot of help from an experienced writer. I do like the comments after each essay. I would recommend this book for that reason.

Awesome book
Love the diversity of stories and the comments! I got this book when I was feeling uninspired and stuck on my application. It offered many new approaches to writing essays. I actually got in Harvard after reading this book! 5 stars for sure!

I really like the choice of essays
I really like the choice of essays. There is a common thread that runs through all of them and it is very useful to analyze with my students. However, the portfolio of each student can be intimidating for the students. I generally tell them to ignore it.

Essays with commentary!
Essays are helpful to read but the commentary is even more helpful.

HARDCORE
It is a great book indeed. I have this for over 6 months now, and I'm done reading all the essays. Harvard Crimson has put some real efforts in order to get this book together, and the additional information of the students also helped me to set a lot of benchmarks. If you're like me, willing to prepare for an ivy league, and need some head-ups in order to begin, you should get this book immediately. It would not help you in your SAT's but would give you an idea of what the necessary thresholds are to be set or achieved. Hands down, the best book for reference essays!
