Q: Can you use this with a bucket of water? Or does it have to hook up to a faucet?

No the water needs pressure behind it to work. So no to a bucket.

Q: Is the shower head removable so the heater can be hooked up to an off grid water supply and pumped into a kitchen and bsthroom shower?

Yes (used this as 1 month temp while waiting on new gas line install) but be prepared for the 1/2" outlet, flow (also effective pressure) will be drastically reduced going into the 3/4" pipe. Besides dealing with a lower flow, The first bathroom (10 feet away) worked preaty darn well! About 104 degrees. The kitchen (20 feet away) was adequate at about 99 degrees, the final bathroom (35 feet away) was a dismal disappointment at 92 degrees. In winter subtract 5 degrees across the board. This is set for max temp and max flow valves. Running 2 in parallel would be required for normal houshold pressure. Local individual inline units are better if there is distance involved.

Make sure your batteries are seated in the correct order. Make sure that the power switch on the bottom of the unit in in the on position. Unfortunately, when I did that it still didn't work until I opened up and found it was improperly wired. Hopefully you don't get that far down the check list. I would be more concerned about the seller. The unit works fine now. The seller, not so much. I would buy elsewhere. They offered me a refund, only if I removed the negative rating the product deserved it the state in which it was originally purchased. Good luck.

Probably broken wire someplace. Power is not getting through.
