2 things - 1st this will work fine on a metal drum as well as plastic - I used it on both types with no issue - 2nd you need a very large connection or hook to use this - the metal loop is >1/2” diameter so it wouldn’t fit my winch hook and the biggest locking connector I found at Home Depot still wouldn’t go around the ring - ended up using a tripled over loop of webbing which is not advisable for heavy loads

Fast hook up, good idea, but the lock fingers barely contact the lip of the steel drum. Little concerned when lifting full drums. Looks like it aould work best for plastic drums only, they have thicker lips.
