Purify your environment with the pillar salt lamp. The lamp is composed of salt crystals with an iron gate cage. The salt rocks are hand mined in the Himalayan mountains. When the lamp is turned on, the light from the provided bulb heats the salt that will purify the surrounding air. The ions are also known to increase blood flow, improve sleep, increase levels of serotonin in the brain, and calm allergy or asthma symptoms. Each lamp is unique in size and shape due to it being hand mined. Most lamps are around 8 inch high and 6 inch wide and long. A 15 watt bulb is included with a UL losted cord. We do not recommend exceeding 15 watts. The cord and bulb must be assembled into the lamp. Simply insert the bulb into the socket, then squeeze the metal hinges toward the bulb and insert this into the bottom of the lamp.

Working out nicely for us
I don't know that I feel any better since I turned this on 2 weeks ago, but it sure is pretty. I like that the "stones" are different shades, it makes for a nice effect. The base is sturdy and I like the look of it. Rather unique, I think.I'll update if any durability issues pop up, but for now I'm quite pleased.

Not the best choice in Himalayan salt lamps
I like Himalayan Salt lamps because they look cool. I'm a research scientist and don't for a moment believe any of the hype about how they're supposed to be good for you. I don't think there is any evidence for that and I certainly don't notice anything when I have them on. I just like the way they look and I have one in my bedroom that I use regularly and like better than this one. This lamp is a wire cage filled with salt rocks. The cage is poorly made. Some of the prongs on mine were not attached to the ring as they were supposed to be (photos attached). The most annoying part, though, is that the lamp does not sit on all of it's legs. It tilts! I can not get it to sit flat on all of its legs. This drives me nuts.Another thing is that the light, which is only 15 watts, is quite bright and white. I can't manage to get the salt rocks in the correct formation to block the light from shining through the gaps in the rocks. My other salt lamp (just one big pillar of salt) has a nice warm pink glow, but this one is bright and white because it's shining through the gaps in the rocks. Also, this lamp has no dimmer as my other salt lamp does.

Mesmerizingly Beautiful When Lit, But Design of Base Is Faulty
This HIMALAYAN SALT COMPANY PILLAR LAMP is mesmerizingly beautiful when turned on. However, it is totally different from what I expected. The lamp iS NOT a solid pillar of salt inside an ironwork base; instead it's a collection of loose lumps of salt inside an ironwork basket that is shaped like a pillar. When the lamp arrived, the salt lumps were contained in a plastic bag inside the basket. The bag had to be removed before the lamp could be used; the same was true of cardboard central core that protected the little 15-watt bulb (at the bottom of the basket) from breakage during shipping. The only way to remove the bag was to carefully dump out the salt chunks. Fortunately they were easy to replace, though they left a pile of loose salt behind. The salt chunks were okay with me, but then I discovered that the lamp would NOT stand up straight. The reason was that the connection between the light bulb and the electrical cord was contacting the countertop beneath the lamp. That connection was longer than the three little ball-shaped legs--so the electrical cord connection was taking the place of one leg, and tilting the whole lamp to one side.I’m NOT comfortable, sleeping or working next to an electric lamp with such a poorly designed base. This is all the more true because the lamp is supposed to be turned on for long hours to get the promised therapeutic effect. If I’d looked closely at the product page photo before ordering, I’d have realized the salt came in chunks; and I have to admit that the chunks probably add to the lamp’s beauty when it's lighted up. However, there is no easy fix possible for the “fourth leg” on the black basket-shaped base, and I don't trust the safety of this electric lamp.

Design Issues
I have multiple Himalayan Salt Lamps around my apartment. I love the glow they give off and I feel they work well for purifying my place. However, the others have a sturdier design than this one in that the base is better built and the light bulb has a cage around it that heats the salt around it better. This lamp has an exposed bulb that I'm worried about breaking (it's a standard 15w e12) if the chunks of salt settle too much on top of it. After careful layering of the salt chunks I was pleased enough to try the lamp. The cord is about 3 feet long, so I don't need it directly by a socket, just close enough. However, after using the lamp for a day, I poked a finger in to touch the crystals by the bulb and they were barely warm to touch. The top layer of crystals didn't even get warmed. If you want a salt lamp, there are those with a better and sturdier design. I love the idea and I have had luck with some previously. I was excited to try the Himalayan Salt Company lamp, but after getting it all together, plugged in, and running, it provides nice ambiance, but not much else.

Some Assembly Required
The Himalayan Salt Company Pillar Lamp creates a lovely ambiance. It currently resides on my night table and gives off a warm glowing orange light that's not overly bright nor too dim. This lamp gives off just the right amount of light without being overbearing in the evening hours. I like using it while I am reading on my digital e-book reader in the evening. Note that this will not light up an entire room. The look of this lamp is pretty fun. Instead of the giant piece of salt, you usually see for salt lamps, this features several salt pieces with none being exactly alike. The squiggled looking base/holder isn't tacky looking in the least bit. The lamp sits upon rounded feet. There are no slip proof things on the bottom but the weight of the salt likely will keep it from shifting around. The packaging was okay. We did have a small mess of salt to that was broken up to get rid of. You'll need to carefully remove the salt, install the bulb (15-watt bulb included), and then place the salt back in carefully and somewhat strategically. I stress as much because you'll want to make sure to hide the bulb within so you don't have bright yellow light shining through open cracks not sealed by the chunks of salt. With this style of lamp, there's a curve of work from you on your part. I found it fun though because I can place the salt exactly as I wish. I like being able to customize things. It has a switch on the cord so you simply press it on or off. I like that I can keep this plugged up and have the option to turn it off and on in one place instead of unplugging and replugging the cord back up every time.I am not sure on the health claims of purifying the air etc but I will state that I have been waking up in the morning and able to breathe a lot better. I really feel that it is helping! Whether it is or not, this still makes for a lovely lamp.
