.com Action-god Jackie Chan does his best James Bond impression with this ecstatic sequel to the classic Supercop. The bare-bones plot has Chan in pursuit of international terrorists, but the narrative quickly gives way to an unceasing barrage of insane stunt work (including a nitro-fueled ski chase and a grandiose fight scene set inside a functioning shark tank). As with most of the aging star's recent films, there is more of an emphasis placed on big, impersonal (albeit impressive) stunts rather than the close-up combat that made him famous; but the end result is still a must-see rush for longtime fans, and a great introduction for newcomers eager to see what all the well-deserved fuss is about. The scene where Jackie takes on multiple goons while armed only with a ladder is one of his most jaw-dropping set pieces ever--and that's saying quite a lot. Be sure to stick around for the closing credits of gags gone awry, which graphically prove that Chan is truly the hardest working man in show business. --Andrew Wright

Solid Bond Knockoff
It can seem as if Jackie Chan made a zillion films during the 1990s. This is one of the slickest, a James Bond type adventure with solid action set pieces and some world traveling. From snow stunts to messing with a shark in Australia, Jackie delivers both the action and the comedy. The budget on this one seems a little higher than usual. It's hard to go wrong with a Jackie Chan movie from this period, this one is slightly above average. Not a masterpiece, but very good and family friendly.

Great movie and excellent quality picture
First Strike is one of the funniest Jackie Chan movies. The Blu Ray match almost the cinema quality. Action and sound are superb.

Movie is fine but...
I watched the Chinese version of this movie on youtube before. The story line goes Jackie Chan, a Hong Kong police officer going to Ukraine to Russia to Australia. Movie itself is fine one of typical Jackie Chan movies. In Chinese version they use languages by the location of scene in Chinese, English and Russian which were more realistic. I expected to hear at least some Russian with English captions on this DVD but they were all overdubbed English voice through entire movie, which felt like watching a cheap movie on TV.

Great, fun, action-packed film
Jackie Chan use to do stunts for Bruce Lee so this guy knows his stuff. This movie is heavily dubbed so beware, but it is still too good to care entirely. It is a really funny movie! I wasn't expecting it the first time I watched it. There are some really terrific fight scenes too. Really classic Jackie Chan. If you love his movies be sure to not miss this one!

top notch performance with great stunts and some really funny parts.
Jackie Chan does some snow stunts for the first time. His fight scenes, like underwater with bad guys and sharks is one not be missed. very funny. This is classic Jackie Chan at his best. also the only time I've seen marshal arts under water!. You will leave this movie thoroughly impressed with Jackie's acrobatic stunt prowess. The acting is pretty poor as usual, but that isn't what makes Jackie Chan movies great, and this one has plenty of what does make it great; action, real stunts, and his own style of humour.

Pretty good movie
If you are expecting a strictly kung fu movie, then you may be a little disappointed as some other reviews show. This movie has some good kung fu scenes, and some of Jackie's inventive fighting (The ladder scene is great especially), but overall it's more of a James Bond style action. I like it for what it is. In this style, Police Story 3 is probably a little better, but this is still a good one worth watching.I would recommend however that you take care about which version you buy. I bought the EIV (Entertainment In Video) version, and it's not the best way to see this movie. It's been cut by about 20 minutes, the picture quality is not too good, it's letterboxed 4:3 (Normally a widescreen movie would be in letterboxed 16:9, meaning more of the available pixels in the DVD format are used). If I made a guess, I would guess it's a quickly done transfer from an old VHS master copy. It doesn't have the original language available (although much of the original movie was in English anyway, and the dubbing here is actually pretty good compared to most of Jackie's movies). It has no extras. However it was watchable, and I enjoyed it, I just wish I'd hunted out a better version. Only buy the EIV version if you can't find anything else and it's a bargain price.

Fun and Funny with Lots of People Getting Hit
It's Jackie, so what's going to be not to love? This is one of his American works, so it's less raw kung fu and comedy than his Hong Kong films, but there is still plenty of both. All the expected physical gags and amazing skills are there.
