Hyperkin "Cadet" Premium Controller for NES (Black)

I guess I just got a bad one? I wanted to buy another controller from hyperkin because these cadet ones were very comfortable I got one that came with the Retron HD, it was very accurate, comfortable to hold, buttons pushed very nice, D-pad was responsive and firm but not too firm. Because of that controller I wanted to buy another. So I did, but this one I got was awful, let alone the socket did not want to fit in the port of the system I had to force it in. But I decided not to even use it at all because i did not want to risk braking the system. So I guess I'll just stick to an actual NES controller.

Wanted a backup just in case my old an OG nes controller failed that I had one at the ready.I wanna get another. I was curious how hyperkin did. Frist of all loved a black style nes controller. Feels great in the hands an does the job. Seems pretty sturdy and love that long 10ft. cable which is awesome.If your curious on a backup nes controller look no further.

I thought that I would like the chamfered corners and recessed buttons better than retro-bits design but I don't. The solid rectangular body and concaved, offset buttons are a better design; however, these controllers are solid quality and the 10-foot lengths chords are nice. The wires are of a higher-quality gauge as well.

The retro system comes with one controller. Needed a second, and this price and quality is there. It is the same quality as the controller that comes with retro system. The price point is great. Under $10. and works great. Simple and small design. Color is great too. Just a little contrast to the grey controller.

Exchanged first controller for another through amazon and both had terrible directional pads. Pressing up seems to frequently register as up/left or up/right. This renders a game like Punch Out unplayable as I always dodge unintentionally. Funny thing is I have the grey version of this controller and the d pad is perfectly fine. I made this purchase based on that one and am amazed by the difference. If color isn't a factor maybe try the grey version of this controller as the cable length is great and controller is comfortable to hold. Unfortunately this one is useless to me as it is currently. I am retuning this one.

I really wanted to like this product and use it as my full time NES controller. However, as another review has stated the D-pad is a little wonky. Any time I press up it also registers that I'm pressing left. This may be OK for a side-scroller, but in Punch-Out it makes it a pain when you're dodging left when trying to press up. Other than that the design seems pretty nice, and the controller is much more ergonomic than the original rectangle NES controllers. I have other Hyperkin products and love them, but they may need to do a little more QA with these ones.

The build quality seems solid and sturdy, but wow is the D-pad bad. It seems like no matter how you press it, it will always register two directions. So, in a game like Rush'n Attack where you press up to jump, you will constantly be jumping and climbing ladders when you just want to go right. In in Punch Out you will be always be dodging, and in Ghosts 'n Goblins you can barely move since pressing a diagonal freezes your character.I also don't care for the extra thick grip bump things. It feels kind of awkward to hold to me, but it's a moot point when the d-pad design is so fundamentally flawed.

I love the comfort and the over all look it works great and looks great
