Polyurethane Varnish Satin 1L

This so far seems like a good varnish, I've used dozens over the years, and although I generally prefer oil based, those are becoming harder to find with a decent pricetag (thank's EU).The varnish applied well through my spray gun with only a little thinning required, and flowed out very nicely without leaving an "orange peel" effect that you get with many others. I've also used it with a fine tipped brush and an application sponge and there were no marks once dried, but I did make sure I'd "laid out" the varnish before leaving it to dry.Sheen is a nice soft satin, and varnish is pure clear so it won't add any extra colour to the item the way some others are a honey sort of colour. Hardness is a bit weak TBH, but it's water based so can't expect too much from that - even the ones that claim "diamond hard" are not even remotely hardwearing, so only use this for items with light wear.I would recommend it, but with the above caveats.

I needed a slower drying solvent based clear satin with low sheen to match existing oak joinery I varnished 15 years ago with Johnstone's ext clear satin woodstain(sample 1 on photo's). I tried the latest offerings from different brands Rustins/Johnstones etc. but most dried nearer gloss than satin(and yes, I did stir each very thoroughly), only Barrettine and Sadolin dried with a low sheen. Never used Barrettine Polyurethane before so I gave it a try for the low price of it, so glad I did, just like the old low sheen satin with a silky feel. Photo shows solvent based satin varnish samples on American white oak, No.1 is from the 15 year old tin of Johnstone's ext clear satin woodstain,- No.2 is Rustin's clear satin,- No.3 is Barrettine clear satin.- No.4 is Sadolin exterior clear satin,- No.5 is Johnstone's Interior clear satin,- No.6 is Johnstone's Exterior clear satin woodstain.
