I have hearing sensitivity which is affected by higher pitches as well as decibel level. As a senior citizen, my ears and hearing tend to be quite sensitive. I purchased this meter to check the various decibel levels in my small apartment. When you have hearing sensitivity issues, you need to be careful not to overreact to sounds that "seem" loud but may not be. This is especially important before calling building maintenance or taking the car to a mechanic. I have checked it against much more expensive meters and this one was spot on! Excellent purchase for what I needed.

I bought three colors:White with blueBlackWhite (actually more off white grayish then white)They are all perfectly calibrated. So they work brilliantly!I love about them that they are portable, you can take it with you anywhere you go, they are small and handy and so easy to use.you just press one button to turn it on.The sound is being measured in real time so the numbers fluctuate all the time as the sound level changeswhile talking or measuring any sound. If you want to grab and hold a particular number as it is being display, just press hold button and it freezes the screen at this number so you can see it clearly.If you press MIN it will show you a lowest value it recorded since you turned it onif you you press MAX it will show you the maximum value it recorded since turned on.My AWESOMEST feature of this little guy is that you can set it very easily so it will start blinking alertwhen the sound volume reaches any given value you set for it. For instance if you choose80 Decibels being the concern sound level then you can set it in three easy stepsand next time you turn it on it will always alert you by blinking the back lit screenas it is not happy when the level goes above 80 dB.So it is awesome as you can visually see at a glance if the sound level goes beyond youracceptable level without worrying about checking the numbers. Sound meter did a good job monitoring sound pressure level during brass band and symphony orchestra rehearsals.

Love the power stay-on feature. Not sure about how accurate is the reader, but seems to be registering at the slightest sound. There is a slight delay between the sound and the reading (about 0.5 - 1 second).
