This activity is well liked by my kindie students, especially those with special needs that struggle with fine motor skills. There are other boards that teach upper- and lower-case separately but having both together increases letter formation and identification knowledge faster. Great product…just don’t loose the magnetic pen. One recommendation for this board would be to attach the pen to avoid it getting misplaced.

It is much larger than it looks in the pictures of the product advertisement, however, because of others' reviews, I knew to expect it to be. The bright white background with red vowels and blue consonants in upper and lower case letters make for a very clean, simplistic and inviting appearance. I appreciate that it has a handle because it is quite large and that makes it easier to carry, especially for a little one. I don't mind that the "pen" is detached because usually they are attached by a string or rope that is either too short or gets in the way, or both. One thing that I didn't realize when I purchased this was that the letters are not recessed, meaning the board is completely flat with only the magnet balls' tops protruding. I mistakenly thought and hoped the letters were recessed and think this could be a future improvement which would guide little ones' hands and "pen" through grooves while tracing each letter. I have seen a wooden board with such grooves to trace but to have both the magnet balls and grooves would be even better. Right now, my 4 year old just "scribbles" on the board to make the magnets come up instead of tracing each letter unless I do hand over hand but I imagine even younger children might trace the letters and enjoy it. Another thing to note that isn't a dealbreaker (for me) is that some nearby magnets do pop up while tracing and also some fall in. This could potentially be confusing or frustrating to a child but I do think the toy is worth it overall and reasonably priced. Lastly, the magnetic force is a bit strong which requires more effort and also makes for a bumpy tracing experience since the tip is being pulled down and against the grooves of each hole on the board as well as the magnet ball tops. However, this could be a good tactile experience for someone who needs the sensory input.

Different technique to learning letters. They loved the magnetic aspect of it. Don’t loose the pen!

Just arrived yesterday for my 5 year old (and 3.5 year old if she pleases). So far so good. It’s a fun way to get used to writing letters. What I like about this version is that it’s one board where my son can see the big letter & small letter right next to each other, plus nice storage for pen. Would recommend for 4+ year olds, even younger if they’ve older siblings
