Do I need to buy tools for my own morse code key?

The perfect product, the package has a 3.5mm Stereo Cable, 5.5mm Wrench 1.5mm Hex Key, so you can easily operate.

What took is required to adjust paddle spacing ?

Simple CW keyer. There are 2 set screws that are locked into place with a locking nut. Simply loosen the locking nut and adjust to your liking. Tighten the locking nut when done. Repeat for other lever.

Are there supposed to be pads for the magnets to prevent scratching of the surface it's used on? None in my package.

No pads were included with my key. I don't think that any were supposed to be in the box. You might try small pieces of laminating material or transparent gorilla tape on the magnets to prevent scratching.

Please don't tell me a lambic key repeats dits and dashes. an iambic key does that. i think the product description is wrong.

This key doesn’t repeat dits and dahs, however the transceiver will if set to iambic mode and either paddle is held down.
