The jury is still out
I had a contractor add a new patio in back of my house. He was supposed to have the concrete pumped but instead he used some bucket device and didn’t lay plywood down to protect the lawn.I bought this winter rye grass (cereal rye) as a way to prevent erosion over winter. I am sure it will do the job but it is much courser than lawn grass. I don’t know if I can just leave it until it finally dies off or if I am going to have to kill it with chemicals. If you need it on a garden or field for ground cover or for grazing of wild animals over winter I’m sure you won’t be disappointed. It sprouted very quickly even with very cold weather and it is still looking great at 19 degrees F.By the way I have been mowing it, more so to mulch leaves than to keep it short.

Seed looks good
Seed looks good ordered and received to late for fall planting but plan on seeding early spring. Lot of seed had spilled from original packaging but was retained by shipping packaging.

Perfect soil enhancer!
Used as cover crop last winter. The garden this year is absolutely beyond belief!

High germination rate
I was a little late in discovering the benefits of planting this but figured I'd give it a try anyway. I spread the seed the last week of Nov in a zone 9 climate, it's currently 60-70 deg daily, 50s at night. I watered them and they germinated within 2 days. A few days after that I have sprouts with a leaf forming. I probably put down more than needed, but I'm battling some very aggressive deep rooted weeds and acidic, heavy clay soil. Hoping this does the trick. It looks like they all germinated, or at least most of them, the ground looks like it has a 5 o'clock shadow.

Works in the shade
This is great if you are planting more in the shady areas not so well in the sun and takes longer than 10 days most of the time
