Best cucumber slicer I've ever owned.
If you're tired of cucumber slices coming out tapered and different thicknesses using a regular double bevel knife, get one of these. With the single bevel, there's no 'drift' as the knife passes through the cucumber. Resulting in consistently straight cuts. Making it very easy to control the thickness of cuts. I find it works best to hold the heel of the blade against the cutting board, with the tip elevated in line with the handle, then just push the knfie through the cucumber. You get nice thin and even slices for sandwiches and salads. It also works great on carrots, celery and for chopping fresh cilantro, mint, etc. I prefer the NSF handle for the nonslip factor when my hands are wet from handling fresh veggies.

Easy to hold cuts thru everything
My other knife is a Mercer, and this one is as sharp and balanced. My Go-To knife for practically anything. My preference is "short and stubby" which makes the Deba perfect. PS: Get the NSF Handel, if you are cutting greasy slippery meat!

I like the NSF Handle
I thought I was ordering one with a wooden handle, but it was NSF. At first I was unhappy, but I own a similar low cost Deba (not Mercer) with a wooden handle and I now prefer the Mercer as almost zero drying time after washing. It's a decent everyday knife for the money. I would recommend.

My Favorite Knife!
I bought this Deba style knife for a couple of reasons: I like the shape and width of the style as it provides both a long cutting edge as well as a point for delicate trimming which my nakiri style knife doesn't have. I also really like the amount of space for my knuckles - they don't touch the cutting board or feel squeezed for space. The knife was very sharp when I received it, and is still almost as sharp. The feel is well-balanced and the blade is much thinner (and way lighter) than my Wasabi Deba which was rated a bit higher than this Mercer product. I actually prefer the Mercer, as the Wasabi Deba blade is very heavy. The single bevel is not an issue once you have a bit of practice with it. Overall, this is my favorite knife

Mercer Deba knife
Decent blade steel but not a "true" single bevel knife. Right side has a secondary bevel with no concave at the left side and with a low factory bevel ground. Both a compromise for cost of the knife (very inexpensive).

Great collection
I ordered 4 of the Mercer Asian collection after using my son’s Mercer knives for several years. He is a chef and recommended I look at this collection because of excellent quality, and having the basic knife styles I need in my kitchen. These knives are well balanced, have the perfect weight, and have an exceptional edge. The Santoprene handle makes them a extra easy to hold and safe in the kitchen. The Deba and Nagiri in particular are my favorites, the Santoku is lighter than other Santokus I have used, but I still like it very much. Also tried the natural wood handle and wood handle, but returned this knife as it deteriorated after using and washing once, the wood became fuzzy. I have to admit, I was also drawn to these knives because of the elegant look that is not like your basic black/ silver knife, and on this point I was very pleased. They look elegant and beautiful on display on my magnetic board in my kitchen. Overall the Asian collection with NFS handles are excellent quality, beautiful kitchen tools and I am very happy with my purchase.

Delightful. Very sharp and functional.
I hadn't tried a knife with this design before. It might take a little getting used to, to get the best work out of it. It wants to be rocked or slid. It is just hot-cha-cha sharp on delivery, and please don't test that against your fingers. I love this thing.

First of all let me say that for the price this is an awesome little knife.. cuts veggies and boneless meat no fuss. The Japanese writing also adds to the cool factor. However, this is not a true heavy duty deba, which should be in essence a halfway cleaver. You can't really deal with chicken bone and fish beheading and all that with this knife.
