Comforting
What could be more soothing than comfort food and the `Old Farmer's Almanac'? These recipes are good for company, family, tailgating and pot luck. There are more than 200 recipes. Most have small colour photos. The recipes include; appetizers, soups-stews and chilis, salads, vegetables, main dishes, pizzas and savory pies, breads and desserts. There are small boxes of information on some of the pages; such as yellow and red peppers are the same as green peppers, how the heat of a hot pepper is measured, and what shallots are. Most of the recipes are not all that different, including many that are somewhat modernized versions of comfort food, like bourbon and brown sugar glazed salmon- which is very good, shrimp scampi with artichoke hearts and ratatouille poached eggs- which is also very good. Some of the other dishes we have made and enjoyed are crab pot pie - except the instructions are given for 6 individual pies. It says you can make one big pie, but then fails to give time or temperature for that. We have also liked; kale, sausage and white bean soup, Cincinnati chili, curried chicken with cashews and creamy peanut butter cup pie. This definitely is a book many would enjoy.

Very Comforting Comfort Food Book
Now this is my idea of a comfort food recipe book. Dishes that are familiar...but not too. Well laid out instructions. Great photographs. An index that helps you find what you're looking for quickly. And everything I've tried tastes great.I really like this book, and can find only one thing which could be improved: I wish it was longer.

Clean Recipes with Grocery Store Ingredients.
I love this book...I have over 75% of the recipes marked to try...The recipes are made with natural foods that you can find in the grocery store. I read almost every recipe and do not remember seeing much...if any...processed food or canned soup...and with very little sugar thrown in arbitrarily like so many southern comfort food recipes do. That is the same reason that I like Meredith Laurence's cookbooks like "Cooking Under Pressure"...Desserts need sugar but I personally see no reason to add it to savory dishes...even those made with tomatoes like chili and pasta sauce...I think it has just become a habit. This will be my go to cookbook for a while however I substitute brown rice and whole wheat flour and pasta where I can.
