Graphic Design Solutions (Design Concepts)

This book is used as a course text in many design classes across the country. I can see why. Not so much a history as it is a survey of the current state of graphic design, it's quite possibly the best treatment I've ever read on the subject in a single volume. The 3rd edition is significantly expanded in content and reformatted versus the 2nd, and the illustrative examples are abundant and well-chosen. Many of the examples are accompanied by remarks from the designers themselves, which helps shed light on the concepts and thought processes behind the work. The text strikes a good balance between commentary and pedagogy, and as a result the book works for both instructional reference and casual reading. The end of each chapter contains related exercises designed to prod your right brain into action. This book will help you discover -- or rediscover -- what's fun and exciting about graphic design.

This was a required text book for one of my classes. I often rent my text books. I'm glad that I bought and own this one. I'll refer to it often. I rented many other books for guidance and inspiration for branding, logo design, printing, etc. This book stood out among all of those even though the others were helpful. Being in the business for years and now adding to my skill set, I know this is a solid comprehensive tool that will last for several years in this fast, evolving industry. Great investment.

good textbook.

Good

This book was for a advanced graphic design production class I took. Overall the book was very comprehensive covering a wide range of topics for graphic design and advertising. However, due to the vast amount of info each topic was only touched on, nothing too in depth. There are however many reference materials the author suggests throughout the book and in the back. For the price though, I would have thought there would have been more meat to the book. Definitely not a book for advanced designers... great book for beginners and/or people who have taught themselves graphic design.

It is a textbook, but well written. Useful, great descriptions with lots of illustrations to help one absorb the concepts. The concepts are introduced and kept as brief as possible but still packs a lot of information. It is a keeper and will be around for a long time afterwards for reference.

Good for my Graphic Design class

I bought this book for a university course. Found that there is some good material within, but I'm not sure if I'll return to it since I've completed the course. Worth a glance for any designer.

I was longing to read this book and I am happy I found a used copy that still looked very good and properly kept. Very appropriate if you are into Graphic Design Solution
