I wear a size 12 wide and it works fine for me.

How do I change the battery?

There is no battery other than the remote control battery. To change the battery in the remote all you have to do is slide the door open and replace the battery.

What do I do if the piece to hold up the top is broken?

How do you open the battery slide? There is an extra little piece. So you hold that down also?

Yes. I used a small screw driver to hold that outer tab in and the pull on main tab. Uses CR2025 on mine
