REMAINS ONE OF THE BEST CRIME MOVIES EVER, EVEN BETTER VISUAL QUALITY ON THE 4K FORMAT This Star-Studded drama visually below par on Blu-ray in my opinion is far sharper on 4k.. This (still relevant) the - Previously reviewed on the Blu-ray format - iT's many a day since last watching this 'Classic' ...owned the Blu-ray version since release without viewing, until now, there is always something else to watch, but, it's worth revisiting films such as this at some point. With a star-studded cast-list led by screen legends 'Al Pacino' and 'Robert De-Niro' the film is probably one of the best Cop versus Organised Crime Movies of have graced the silver-screen down the years. After a well organised heist during which three security guards are killed 'Lt Vincent Hanna' (Pacino) is on the case, tracking down the culprits will prove much more complicated than the Lieutenant had imagined, 'Neil McCauley' (De Niro) runs a tight ship, he';s highly organised and commands both loyalty and discipline within his team, what he says goes. Surely there has to be a weak link in 'Neil's' set-up, he or a member of his team is bound to make a mistake? Knowing who your after is one thing - bringing them down another.....it becomes a deadly game of cat and mouse, both sides of the divide knowing what they are up against...........strangely 'Vincent' and 'Neil' develop a mutual respect of sorts. A superior and well enacted crime drama which has plenty of tension and action along the way, though often violent it is an exciting watch.........There is an awesome and well staged fire-fight on the streets of L.A. As many reviewers have pointed out the Blu-ray upgrade is not perfect, i've found on many occasions the close-up (fore-ground) picture quality is okay, but the background often a little grainy. Though, the film is a classic, if watching on this format you may well forgive the imperfection.

I bought this as I've only had the DVD (not blu ray) version of this film and I thought I'll splash out and get this 4k version. Doesn't disappoint. Apart from the fact this movie is a classic, the 4k is beautiful and particular scenes such as the bank robbery is particularly impressive. I am fortunate enough to have a 5.1 surround sound system and it was like a cinema experience watching this in 4k with booming sound. Highly recommend, it'll enhance your viewing experience above and beyond any streaming service can offer.

I had owned this movie on Blu-ray, but I had the 2009 edition, not the 2017 definitive edition. Since then, I've been told that the difference between this 4K and the 2017 BD edition isn't that great, but, since I was upgrading from the first Blu-ray standard edition, I can tell you there is a marked difference in the image quality. Grain is almost gone, and yes, it looks like they made the whole movie a bit darker image wise, but that tone does suit the story of the movie. They ported over the 5.1 DTS Mix, which was excellent from the previous release. I suppose Dolby Atmos would have been nice, but this is, nonetheless an excellent immersive track, particularly in the shootout scene and in the end scene. The extras are all ported over from the 2017 definitive edition BD. As I said, I can't compare how good this 4K is from the 2017 BD release, but it's definitely a marked improvement from the 2009 BD release.

This movie looks absolutely faboulous in 4k, this edition has been very well made in terms of video. The remastered audio is also of very high quality, I had zero issues with it when watching the movie. The movie itself is an absolute classic and a must-watch for all the fans of heist movies. It is packed with famous actors and their performances are just amazing. The only issue I had with watching the movie was that it was maybe stretched a bit too much for my likings and involved too many dialogues. The movie lasts almost 3 full hours and, even though it is an action movie, it's not packed with much action. It focuses way more on the characters and their development rather than the action. Nonetheless, it's a great production and I can recommend it to anyone who hasn't seen it yet.

Amazing release, highly recommended with an OLED LG - film isnt as dark as it was stated. The collor pallet here perfectly fits the tone of the movie. Its sharp, and looks stunning on 4K UHD disk. Sound is great at 5.1

The perfect most complete film in my opinion so I'm only going to comment on the 4k upgrade. There is a lot of controversy over how dark the film is and I was very nearly swayed to avoid this given I got the remastered blu ray not too long ago. I'm glad i wasn't. I watched this in a pitch black room on a large OLED screen through a decent 4k player and I have to say, whilst there are dark scenes, it didn't come across too dark to watch or enjoy. Instead just very much part of the mood and feel of the scenes by design. I certainly wouldn't describe the overall film as too dark at all based on my viewing. The 4k transfer is decent and opens up details on the characters and in scenes beautifully. The colour and deep contrasts worked great with the HDR kicking in. It loses a star for me because they've not revisited the audio and included Dolby Atmos which is unforgivable given how good the soundtrack is and the action scenes. It's still excellent but only in places and is inconsistent at times for my personal liking. One minute the sound blows you away and other times i'm waiting for the low frequencies that aren't quite where I'd expect them to be. I'm sure there will be another version released in the future so hope they revisit the audio which would complete this release perfectly! If you don't own the remastered blu ray, this is a no brainer. If you do, purchasing this comes down to whether the enhanced picture and colour amendments are important to you or as a fan of the film, you just can't not have it in the collection.

The movie from this release has beautiful HDR image but you need a proper TV to appreciate it. This movie This video requires at least 1500 nits. I watched it on TV with 2000 nits and the picture was beautiful. Full colors, you can see the taste of the photographic film. The director himself supervised the HDR color grading. If you have less Nits you will see a dark image.

I will start by saying that yes this is a very dim image, more SDR range with some very limited HDR brightness. However if you understand HDR then it isn't always about brightness and 'pop'. Just as important is bringing out the nuances between light and dark...and heat is a very dark movie in both image and themeatically. I personally think the transfer is excellent. I think the time of day you watch this and your TVs ability to correctly tone map HDR and the overall peak brightness output of your TV will play a major part on your perception. If you watch this in summer in a bright room this transfer will likely look very dark and unwatchable at times. Michael Mann obviously wants his film to look this way and who am I to say otherwise. A Disney colour and brightness demo this is not so perhaps adjust your expectations before purchasing. Still the definitive version of this masterpiece IMHO

Michael Mann schuf Mitte der 1990er-Jahre ein kriminalistisches Epos, das Actionkino, Charakterstudie und urbane Tragödie auf außergewöhnliche Weise miteinander verbindet. Im Mittelpunkt stehen ein hochprofessioneller Bankräuber und ein kompromissloser Ermittler, deren Leben sich immer stärker aufeinander zubewegen. Was den Film dabei so faszinierend macht, ist nicht allein das Katz-und-Maus-Spiel zwischen Polizei und Verbrechern, sondern die ruhige, fast melancholische Beobachtung zweier Männer, die trotz gegensätzlicher Seiten erstaunlich viele Gemeinsamkeiten besitzen. „Heat“ lebt von Atmosphäre, Blicken und Entscheidungen, die oft mehr erzählen als lange Dialoge. Besonders legendär bleibt natürlich die berühmte Schießerei nach dem Banküberfall, die bis heute als eine der realistischsten Actionsequenzen der Filmgeschichte gilt. Statt übertriebener Musik setzte Michael Mann hier bewusst auf echte Waffen- und Straßengeräusche, wodurch die Szene eine rohe Intensität entwickelt, die selbst moderne Actionfilme selten erreichen. Eine kleine Anekdote vom Dreh erzählt, dass zahlreiche Soldaten und Spezialeinheiten später genau diese Sequenz analysierten, weil die taktischen Bewegungen der Figuren ungewöhnlich authentisch inszeniert wurden. Eine Romanvorlage existierte zum Zeitpunkt der Entstehung noch nicht. Das Drehbuch basiert auf einem früheren TV-Projekt von Michael Mann namens „L.A. Das neue 4K-Master basiert auf einer frischen Abtastung des Originalnegativs und liefert gegenüber älteren Blu-Ray- und DVD-Versionen eine deutlich bessere Detailzeichnung. Besonders Gesichter, Stoffstrukturen und die nächtlichen Stadtaufnahmen profitieren enorm von der höheren Auflösung. Gleichzeitig bleibt der typische Filmlook mit natürlichem Korn vollständig erhalten. Michael Mann entschied sich bewusst gegen übertriebene digitale Glättung, wodurch die UHD angenehm filmisch wirkt. Das HDR-Grading sorgt vor allem bei Nachtaufnahmen für sichtbar stärkere Kontraste und feinere Lichtabstufungen. Neonlichter, Straßenreflexionen und die berühmte Skyline von Los Angeles wirken intensiver und plastischer als jemals zuvor. Gerade die dunklen Szenen gewinnen erheblich an Tiefe, ohne Details zu verschlucken. Im Vergleich zur alten Blu-Ray fällt außerdem die deutlich stabilere Bildruhe auf. Frühere Probleme mit leicht weichen Einstellungen oder flachen Schwarzwerten wurden sichtbar verbessert. Tonal überzeugt die 4K UHD mit einem kraftvollen DTS-HD Master Audio beziehungsweise Dolby-Atmos-Mix, abhängig von der Edition. Besonders die legendäre Bankraub-Sequenz entfaltet hier eine enorme Dynamik. Die Schusswechsel klingen trocken, hart und extrem direkt, während Umgebungsgeräusche und Echoeffekte eine beeindruckende Räumlichkeit erzeugen. Gleichzeitig bleiben Dialoge jederzeit sauber verständlich. Auch der atmosphärische Score von Elliot Goldenthal und die zahlreichen Musikstücke wirken deutlich klarer und räumlicher verteilt als auf älteren Veröffentlichungen. Verpackungstechnisch existieren mittlerweile mehrere attraktive Sammlereditionen. Neben der Standard-Amaray sind internationale Steelbooks mit dunklem Metallic-Design erschienen, die optisch hervorragend zur kühlen Ästhetik des Films passen. Besonders beliebt sind einige limitierte US-Editionen mit hochwertigem Artwork und zusätzlichen Artcards. Mediabooks sind im europäischen Markt ebenfalls vereinzelt erhältlich und enthalten oft umfangreiche Booklets zur Filmgeschichte und Produktion. Die Extras gehören nach wie vor zu den interessantesten Bestandteilen der Veröffentlichung. Viele Extras wirken auch heute noch erstaunlich tiefgehend und vermeiden die üblichen oberflächlichen Werbeinterviews moderner Veröffentlichungen. Insgesamt präsentiert sich „Heat“ auf 4K UHD in einer Qualität, die diesem Filmklassiker absolut gerecht wird. Bild und Ton transportieren die intensive Atmosphäre, die präzise Kameraarbeit und die außergewöhnliche Spannung eindrucksvoll ins Heimkino und zeigen erneut, warum „Heat“ bis heute zu den ganz großen Meisterwerken des modernen Crime-Kinos zählt.
