Excellent Visual Guide for Rose Beginners
I was so happy to receive my book. I already looked every page and it has great Roses photo with name identification. It does not show a photo of evwry single rose name that it is mentioned but have enough to learn to start the basic roses growing. This is great for someone like me that is new on this topic and didn't know anything about Roses. I am super happy and enjoy a lot the photos. Have guide to buy, plant, care, identify sickness, and propagation. It covers evry basic that is a lot for someone that does know anything. I wish it would have a photo guide reference for each rose named.

Great Book On Roses
Well written book about growing roses and putting them in the right, versus wrong place. Since I'm restarting growing roses next year Peter's information is extremely valuable to me, especially, since I'm in his garden zone.

My New Favorite Rose Book
I would highly recommend this book even if it had no text. Well worth the price for the pictures alone.First and most importantly; this is the distillation of one man's experience during thirty years of rose gardening in Ohio. Ohio is not known as a place where any rose you plant will thrive effortlessly. You may not live in Ohio but you certainly have difficult spots where what you want to grow refuses to oblige. Peter Schneider offers alternatives for both varieties and location. If you are a planner his knowledge based recommendations will save you a bunch of money. If you are, like me, an impulse buyer, thorough pre-season reading may well save you from yourself.Roses are a passion and all too often our passion is specialized. For example I have books that only pertain to modern hybrid teas, or 'bullet proof' varieties of modern carefree shrub roses. Other books that refuse to even look at anything introduced after about 1930. Some delight in the impossible to find, never heard of them roses.Schneider seems to just love all types of roses. He writes factually and is careful to remind his readers that he is writing about his own experience and that yours may be different. This book is divided into three parts. Part One is a general introduction. Part Two, the largest section, covers roses in the garden and the landscape. He covers specimen roses, beds and borders, varieties for cutting, miniatures, climbers, tree roses and growing roses in containers. Part Three is the "how to" section and it is pretty comprehensive. Finally there is an excellent index.Every rose in this book is commercially available (or was at the time of publication) This is not your ultimate encyclopedia of rose varieties, it is much more useful than that!

Superb Photography of the Roses. Rosarian with Vast Knowledge of Planting Roses in the Correct Spot.
The book has gorgeous photography and it is packed with pertinent information. The only thing that is frustrating for me for just about all book relating to plants is that the plant zones not noted and I either have to hunt for it on the internet when specifying the rose or look in the index and then it may be in another area of the book, because the rose that is discussed is on different pages of the book itself. Living in the far north, knowing the plant zone is imperative, before you fall in love with a rose that won't work in your zone. I like the book and the man that wrote it has vast knowledge of the art of growing roses and describing its uses. What I have noted is that some of the roses that are noted to be in zone 5 have changed in Alaska. With global warming I find that I can grow roses without wintering them over in my garage for Z4b. There are other roses that say Z5 but will grow without winter protection outside like New Dawn. Best climbing rose ever for far northern gardening.

I love books, and roses and beauty so I wanted this book new, not used. Cover with tear. Bummer.
I use the book for entertainment, for learning more and more about roses and for teaching my granddaughter. I also display it as a beautiful book in my living room reading nook. I'm so disappointed it came with a tear in the cover. The book without the cover is white with no pictures making this tear even more of a problem. Can't just remove it and still have a beautiful book from the outside. Love the content though.

I'm ready to get those specialty Roses!
Yes, those drifts of top heavy, loaded with blossom types I've admired but been afraid to try. I'm zone 5 and feared I wouldn't be able to grow the Old Roses I've coveted. Imagine my delight at reading about the hundreds that will thrive. After reading this book I'm ready to rock! Can't wait for the snow to be gone and warm weather to begin. Big smile and much thanks and appreciation to the author for so generously sharing the many years experience. I am just itching to get my new selections ordered. The nurseries near my home (relative term, closest is 65 miles, good ones over 100) have some, actually many, of the Roses featured, but I want unique varieties so am happy to order them by mail. Good dream and planning material for late January reading!!
