For beginners, lasts longer if you take care of it
I really loved this product when taken care of correctly. Sharpening is NECESSARY and TIME CONSUMING.The biggest thing to hinge your opinion on is how much time you want to spend sharpening your tools if you buy this. This kit is inexpensive for a reason, everything needed to be sharpened upon arrival. A more expensive knife or set of scissors etc will change the quality of metal and how sharp the blade is. Based on my research, stainless steel is a classic and if you are willing to sharpen and care for your blades, you can make anything work. This has been consistent with my experience.Since all the tools are made of stainless steel, you're able to sharpen them. There is NOT a sharpener or any stropping compound included in this kit. After everything has been sufficiently sharpened, you can stick with just stropping (I used Polishing Compound Fine Green Buffing Compound). Sharpening will take a LONG time. You can use the nail file to sharpen if you are really skilled, or you can use a high grain sandpaper. If you are just dipping your toes in, the sandpaper is a better option. We already had a sharpening stone for our kitchen knives (if that helps make that decision any easier for you) and that was perfect and will ultimately last longer than the other options. The good:In my limited leather experience, I found the quality of the waxed thread and metal to be good. I really did use a lot of the tools! I did a test run of everything I felt like I would need in my upcoming projects, so the only thing I didn't test was the stitching wheel. I really wouldn't replace anything given that I have all the materials to regularly sharpen my tools (which is normal, not specific to this kit).It took me a lot of practice to learn the swivel knife. There are many kinds out there, but I think this knife as my first removed a lot of the crazy research of buying a more expensive one. Again, with sharpening and stropping, I have no issues with it.The bad: (It should be noted I have mostly used THICK leather, 8-9 oz)I did break one of the curved needles, but that could be related to the learning curve (ha).Even with sharpening, I still have mixed feelings about the scissors. I did use very thick leather, though. Similar feelings with the leather cutting knife but to a lesser extent.I'm not sure if I did a bad job sharpening the edge groover or if it just isn't a good size for my projects. Very hit or miss for me.I felt like the leather stitching groover never worked for me. The bars wouldn't stay in place. One of the attachments for it can also be used as a pseudo wing divider, which gave me the same issue.I wish this included stropping compound. Buy green since this set is stainless steel. I also wish this included a skiving knife, though this is not necessary if you're working on thinner leather. Additionally, I would have liked if this came with hole and oval punches you would need for belts or many things with closures. The neutral:Depending on what projects you are planning on doing, you may not NEED many of these pieces, and be better off with something smaller. I didn't end up using most of the stamps since they don't match many of my designs. I did use the beveling tools plenty! The daubers are fine if you are working on something small. A brush or spray or dip tray would be better alternatives to big projects. The pieces I used the MOST were the beveling stamps, the curved needles and waxed thread, the thimbles, the swivel knife, the one and two prong punches, the edge groover, and the burnishing tools (if that helps to see what items you may feel you can skip). I used a strap cutter for as many of my cuts as possible because I didn't like the scissors for anything too visible. If you are planning wearing whatever you make often, you should also factor in the NOT included things in cost of materials. When I bought this, I also bought a few custom stamps, a strap cutter, dye(s), sealer / pro resist, antique gel, hole and oval punches, belt buckles, rivets, a skiving knife, leather stamping board, waxm, and stropping / jeweler's compound. Other potential tools could be burnishing gel, a sharpening kit,a specialized hammer or mallet, a stitching pony, etc. depending on your needs and wants.

Affordable for what you get
Nice kit for starters and more advanced users. Plenty of tools to start a project. Liked that it rolled up for easy storage or transport. Good selection of punches. Would liked to have a hammer with the kit but that could be bought later to fit your preference. Not used yet.

its a great starter set and i love how many items it has to help you get started though most of the sharp tools a dull and cheap i broke a couple tools on day one and the organizer is meh but over all this is a good starter set for someone getting into the craft and it will help you learn what tools you will use all the time so you know what to upgrade
