If you combined Charlie Kaufman & The Wachowski's, you'd get.....
A remarkable, mind-bending, beautifully orchestrated work called, "Everything, Everywhere, All At Once". It is as if Directors Daniel Scheinert & Daniel Kwan somehow conjured these artists minds and came up with an honestly AWESOME combination of incredible storytelling, imagination, and a writing of dialogue that, this person HERE believes, SHOULD be highly considered at Academy awards time. The film, as I've alluded to, has everything: Wonderful dialogue, action sequences that are highly imaginative (that show actors who I've never considered to be action "types" before........Jamie Lee Curtis, Key Huy Quan), and an overall story that we may have seen before, but is very fresh & original. The story starts off with us the viewer watching as Evelyn Yang (the amazing Michelle Yeoh), who, along with her husband, Waymond Wang (Key Huy Quan), preparing for a party celebrating the anniversary of their laundromat (I must confess here, I forget HOW many years they are celebrating). At the same time they are preparing for the party, Evelyn has to get together all of her receipts & records to produce to the IRS agent, Deidre Beaubeirdre (a HILARIOUS Jamie Lee Curtis), who is investigating their business to see if they are fraudulently trying to make false claims in order to start other businesses. In the elevator ride up to the agent's office, Evelyn's husband Waymond SUDDENLY becomes a different person (Quan's character, a very meek, yet loving husband & father), suddenly turns into a more confident, "take charge"-type, if you will, and explains to his wife that by the time they reach the 10th floor, she has to take a pair of earbuds that he gives to her, and instructs her to turn on the green side, and meet him in the janitor's closet.........where he instructs her that he's really (at THAT moment), is the conscience of another version of her husband Waymond (he's from the ALPHAVERSE), and that a great evil is about to come to destroy all of the thousands of multiverses that house many thousands of different versions of THEMSELVES. Alpha Waymond (as this version is known), is letting her know that she (Evelyn), has been deemed "The One" by the Alphaverse, and that he must listen to him in order to thwart the evil that is to come. This evil presence is a being by the name of Jobu Tupaki........who just HAPPENS to be, in Evelyn's & Waymond's realm.......their daughter, Joy Wang (a WONDERFUL Stephanie Hsu)........ who, in our realm, is really a very shy, insecure young woman with a girlfriend (the terrific Tallie Medell as Becky), whom Evelyn is not really all that accepting of. HOWEVER...........as Jobu Tupaki............she is QUITE differnt from Joy. These beings from other realms & Universes get around by doing "jumps"....... allowing their conscience to traverse time and space .......... and apparently they are coming for Evelyn, who all believe SHE is "The One" who can save them (OR destroy them). The really amazing part of this film, though, is the allegory that is told about how different parts of US (our personalities, for example), or the different versions of our characters, could lead us to do and become such wonderful things. Evelyn believes she CANNOT be "The One", because she's been a failure at everything she's tried to do...........never being able to finish what she's started...........which leads "Alpha" Waymond to tell her, "EXACTLY! You have failed at so MANY things that you have the chance to do SO MUCH MORE!" There are many poignant moments in this film, where we get to see what would have happened had Evelyn decided NOT to run off to America with Waymond, as her Father WANTED her to do (the always wonderful James Hong who plays Evelyn's dad). We see how the one version of herself decides to stay in China, where she becomes a huge martial arts star, where she runs into Waymond (another DIFFERENT version of Waymond), where he, by his clothing, his hair style, the way he carries himself, has become a different version of the Waymond from OUR realm: Very sucsessfull (sorry if I misspelled that!), very confident in himself. While they get reaquainted, he has quite a beautiful line to her: "In another life, I would have enjoyed doing laundry & taxes with you." The central core of this movie, however, is watching the real relationship between Mother & daughter, and the complications OF it (to watch Stephanie Hsu portraying the great evil that is Jobu Tupaki and then herself as Joy in OUR realm is a thing of beauty), particularly when she's confronted BY her Mother, Evelyn, AS Jobu Tupaki............. and how Evelyn goes about trying to resolve the conflict. There are SO MANY THINGS that I would LOVE to PLUNGE into here of what's so amazing about this film (I haven't even gotten to Jamie Lee Curtis' part of it), but I'll put it this way: She looks like she's having a ball in this film, and many cudos to the directors for casting her IN the role. I also believe some serious Best Actor/Actress/Supporting nods should be considered for this film................ in particular Stephanie Hsu, who I thought was a revelation (this is the first time I've ever seen her in ANYTHING). The imagination behind the writing, as I've said, is reminiscent to me of Charlie Kaufman ("Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind"), and the action sequences (and, to an extent, the writing), of The Wachowski's (The Matrix films), is what I opened up with in the headline.

Touching and wonderful
A joyfully entertaining and incredibly creative take on one of the most difficult philosophical questions available to the human mind - in light of the great scope of the universe, across galactic and subatomic scales, when the nuance of our own human existence becomes less than insignificant by compare, does anything really matter? The answer, according to the great spiritual traditions of the world and also the film itself, is a resounding YES and NO. While the mechanics of our existence wash out against the tides of time and space, the thing that makes existence worthwhile is human connection, kindness, compassion, and the joy and meaning that arise from navigating the great sea of potentiality and probability hand in hand, heart within heart, alongside those that matter the most to us, as well as with complete strangers, all of whom are seeking the same happiness and comfort that we ourselves are looking to create.

Had to buy new player
Sorry if you read my previous review. I want to say that the movie is just fine and the purchase was smooth and quick. Apparently my 2014 player could not play it and I could not update the firmware, so I bought a new player and it works perfectly now. However I do want to say the Walmart offers a 90 day warranty on it's movies and not just a 30 day like I was offered with this movie. I bought the movie when I saw it was available in April, but did not have time to watch it until recently. It is a strange movie, but I enjoyed the quality of acting, and the amazing visual changes and experiences in the film. I am glad I got to view it.

One of the disks doesn't work
The movie was great! But, I ordered the DVD+Blue Ray of this film and only the Blue Ray worked. I tried the DVD in three different devices, but it was a no-go. So, I'm giving this mostly negative review based on the quality of the product.
