It's got plenty of power and can SAND through a board. Not just cut. With a SANDING DRUM you can go through a board. It doesn't bog easily above 10krpm. It is great for cutting bolts, cutting sheet metal, sanding metal and wood, rough and fine shaping in wood. Fine shaping in aluminum, polishing steel, rough axe or lawn blade sharpening, engraving, and much more I haven't done yet. The battery life is good, but it leaves some to be desired. It can be gripped like a golf club for grinding, and shaping, or like a pencil for fine and detailed work. The battery charges in 30 to 40 minutes. It is quite heavy, but not enough to stop most detailed work. I can't say much about durability, as I've only had it for a week, but I've got it covered on sawdust, metal dust and splashed with water lightly. This is a brushed tool, but there is not a way to change brushes, so I guess you replace it. Fine with me for 70$, but might be a deal breaker for some to replace every 150 hours. It is a great starter dremel though. You will have to buy a lot more accessories to fuel your rotary addiction, but at this price it's pretty easy to. The carrying case is a huge bonus. It fits my 110 piece accessory kit with the charger, tool and battery. I overall, a great buy.

Love this tool, use it for everything. Has multiple rpm settings for versatility. Has saved me a bunch of money by repairing stuff myself.

This is replacing my last cordless Dremel that lasted over 15 years. This one is performing just as I expected. If I have a negative, it would be the bulkiness. Other than that, I like the variable speed and in my opinion it's well balanced.

Good cordless's fool

The Dremel 8240 is a cordless, battery operated tool, that can be used indoors and outdoors equally well. It is powered by a 12v Lithium-Ion battery with home charger, extra batteries can be purchased for more outdoor time. The tool has variable speed from 5,000 to 35,000 rpm controlled by a small rotary dial. Build quality is very good ant these tools will stand up to hard wear. Very easy to use, the size is not much longer that the ac mains version. The design looks very good with its two tone light and dark grey body. For its size it is very light weight and it works great. I love it as I can usit for little jobs on my car as well as the workbench. I would advise owners to invest in a Dremel 3-jaw chuck wich makes using small drills a lot easier. Great tool highly recommended.

There's a reason the name brand is synonymous for the rotary tool, they make first class rugged quality tools that are the best at what they do. The device is easy to use, switching out tools is intuitive and simple. The battery life is surprising for its small size and the power output this Dremel is capable of. I would stipulate that this is not a beginner Dremel, you've got to really know how to use a rotary tool already for this, it does not come with labels or instructions for the different tools. I would personally also like to have seen more cutting discs included and some other grinding and sanding heads as the selection is fairly basic, you should plan to purchase the additional tool set with this. That being said, it made short work of the galvanized steel aircraft latch I needed to alter and later in the day I was able to use one of the cutting disks to alter some Warhammer models. The tool isn't too heavy and can be used easily for detail work, however it is a bit long and bulky if you need to get in a really small space. It is far easier to use than a corded version, however. Overall, I would highly recommend this tool for nearly any application, you really do not need a more powerful Dremel unless you are planning on a long-term professional jobsite with a really high-power demand.

This thing is impressive. I got another version of the cordless dremel and was disappointed. This one is as powerful as the corded, quieter than the corded and works as any of the dremel

Convenient usb charging. Build in chuck wrench is clutch.

Great tool to use. A bit bulky but 12v supply with 35000rpm still available its worth it. However keep in mind that Amazon US supplies at 110V so make sure when ordering. I am still looking for a replacement charger to get the battery charged it is so upsetting......
