Exceptional!
I've been a horse lover for as long as I can remember and I've been riding for 50+ years. I rescued a little horse about 10 years ago the day before she was scheduled to go on a trailer headed for a slaughterhouse. She was only four years old. I did not know of her bloodline so I had her DNA evaluated through Texas A & M. The results were amazing and I believe she is at least two-thirds Spanish Mustang. This book brought a lot on insight into her heritage. She is now 15 and I wouldn't part with her for anything in the world. I named her Jewel because that's what she is.

Our Unrespected Veterans
This the first book with over 300 pages that I have read in over 60 years. You will find that the Mustangs are the real heros of the wild west. What they have suffered through and survived. From glory days to the Dog-Food Decades, to today. They are the true symbols of Freedom and Survival. There are sections in this book that will make you cheer and there are sections that will make you want to cry. How the Mustangs have survived against all odds.As the US Convress has said, "“Congress finds and declares that wild free-roaming horses.and burros are living symbols of the historic and pioneer spiritof the West; that they contribute to the diversity of life formswithin the Nation and enrich the lives of the American peopleand that these horses and burros are fast disappearing fromthe American scene. It is the policy of Congress that wild andfree-roaming horses and burros shall be protected from capture, branding, harassment, or death; and to accomplish this theyare to be considered in the area where they are presently found,as an integral part of the natural system of public lands.”Wild Free-Roaming Horse and Burro Act of 1971This book explains all the concerns. The problems and how the Bureau of Land Management is not able to get a hand on the problem. It makes no difference if you are a horse lover or not, this is information you need to know about us. For more information on Mustangs, check out returntofreedom.org. It is a Wild Horse Sancuary.

A great history of the mustang
A very interesting and readable book about the history of the mustang. It starts with the ancient horse and has some interesting information about the Przewalski horse. Then it goes on to tell the story of the reintroduction of the horse by Spanish settlers and Conquistadors, then on to Indians, westward expansion, and Wild Horse Annie. It wraps up with a trip the author took to the Pryor Mountains and I believe (although he never mentions specifics about the pictures at all) this is where he took the majority of his pictures for the book. This book is wonderfully peppered with interesting stories and, like I said, it was very engaging to read and does not have that dry textbook-like feel.I was surprised to find that in a book primarily about the Spanish heritage of the mustang there was no mention of either the Sulfur herd or the Kiger herd (the two herds with the highest percentage of Spanish blood). Even so, I do recommend this book to mustang enthusiasts like me. You will enjoy it.

The History of an American Icon
I am the author of this book, so of course I think it's a great book. I had used up my supply of books and needed several as gifts in a hurry so I ordered them from Amazon, who had them in my mailbox in less than a week!
