I purchased this activity book for my 3 year old who was showing great interest in learning her letters and writing. It has proved to be great for helping her differentiate between upper-case and lower-case and at 3 and a half years old, she can now write all of her letters (both upper and lower-case) very legibly. I am now awaiting the arrival of the Grade K book, and know it will be helpful in her journey of learning and loving to read!

I really like the layout and content of these Skill Sharpener workbooks from Evan-Moor. I bought this Spell & Write PreK for my 4 year old and it's just enough letter sound practice without being overwhelming. Not much writing skills required (which is great because many children this age have the letter recognition but not the fine-motor skills to do a lot of letter writing.) There are a few pages of practice for each letter, complete with a little "test" at the end of each letter (which my daughter has enjoyed taking.) I am combining this with a "letter of the week" type schedule, where we do the pages for 1 letter each week, along with other letter crafts and stories.

Make sure you look very close that you're buying the right book because they make the pre-k and the kindergarten look exactly the same. So I've had to send both books I bought back to get kindergarten
