Great book just needs a bit of up-dating
Like many of the E-myth series the basic premise is that business owners don't really understand all the intricacies of running a small business. Most people are responding to technical skills coupled with an entrepreneurial spasm and launch themselves into their new endeavour and then wonder why they struggle. The E-myth for contractors delves into reasons that many contractors get caught in the 'working harder and enjoying their business less' syndrome. The book is concise and well written and defines the issues well, but it doesn't put as much effort into the solution as it does the problem. Perhaps the better book for presenting a solution is E-Myth Mastery, which is comprehensive and built in a step by step fashion. So give this book a quick read and get inspired and then give mastery a try to build a stronger business.

WRONG & WRONG!! I been in the trades for almost 2 decades and i still learned alot from this book. Honestly, you can't afford NOT to buy it!!

Watered-Down E-Myth. There's A Better Alternative.
I bought this book as a gift for a friend in the contracting business. I'm a huge fan of the original E-Myth and E-Myth Revisited books. My friend was telling me how he wanted to systematize the business he was in and I told him I thought he should read The E-Myth. I vaguely recalled that Michael Gerber had written a version of The E-Myth for contractors. I came to Amazon and found what I was looking for. Unbeknown to my friend, I purchased The E-Myth Contractor for him. I read the book before I presented it to him. To be honest, I was a little disappointed in the book. I felt the book was light on substance and that the original versions of The E-Myth were much more in-depth and thought-provoking. I gave the The E-Myth Contractor to my friend and explained my reservations to him. When I spoke with him about a week later I asked him his opinion of the book. To my surprise, he was very happy with it and was glad I gave it to him. My conclusion would be that if you're not familiar with Michael Gerber's work and you happen to end up with this book, then by all means read it. It may change your perspective on your business. But if you have to make a choice between this book and The E-Myth Revisited, then it's no contest, get The E-Myth Revisited The E-Myth Revisited: Why Most Small Businesses Don't Work and What to Do About It . It's the kind of book that will change forever the way you look at not only your business, but all businesses.

Good but not necessarily great
I enjoyed the original E-Myth very much, though it was painful too as I recognised all my own mistakes in business over the years. I found this particular volume just a tad too new-age in places for my own liking. It is also, like so many small (the book, that is) business-help books, a little on the glib side, making the issues out to be rather easy to solve whereas entrepreneurship is somewhat more challenging in reality, and not quite as formulaic as the author might have us believe. But there's still a lot of truth in it too, and it is easily read, with some good lessons to take from it. Certainly worth both the purchase price and the time it takes to read.

I have taught and trained tradesmen and women for the last 10 years in obtaining their Construction Business Management license and in my opinion this is one of the best resources that they could have if they want to succeed! It covers everything that they absolutely need to know in order to run a successful General Contracting business. My biggest takeaway - you need the right plan for the business that you want to create and the value that you want to provide to your customers.

Brilliant Advice - Wish I read this in year 1 of my business start up, instead of year 7! But I am now starting to grow into other sectors, so even this long into my business, there were LOADS of tips that I needed to apply with immediate effect.
