After previously having a Tug 5m lead which to be honest I was really happy with however after 2 years of abuse from my dog the lead started to rip.I chose this lead because it was 8m long instead of 5m.The build quality of the actual handle feels nice and strong.The lock button is very stiff/awkward to use.The retraction of the lead isn’t very strong (works alright still, but noticeably weaker than the tug).It often get’s tangled and doesn’t retract until I untwist it.The worst part however is the lock doesn’t hold the lead in tight enough. When I lock it off my dog can pull it out if he’s trying to say hello to another dog or whatever. He’s a only a 27kg Labrador so well within the weight recommendation.Overall it’s alright, I wouldn’t say don’t buy it. However I probably wouldn’t buy it again and if I had the choice again I’d likely buy the shorter tug over this.

This product is not well designed. I bought it because I wanted an 8m retractable lead. I decided to return it to Amazon after 30min of use.Cons:- It tangles a lot - I used it once, and it happened three times in half an hour.- Locking mechanism is not easy to operate - it was designed to be used by a huge hand.- It is not well balanced - handling position not good enough- It is too noisy - you can hear the mechanism working constantlyPros:- It looks beautiful

What a great retractable dog lead. I use this with my German shepherd as I currently can't trust her off the lead but she likes some freedom.The lead holds her well, she is less than 40kg but she is quite strong when she sees another dog or animals.

I've only given this 4 stars as it can have a tendency to not retract fully. My partner loves the length as Romeo can feel like he's off lead when they're in the woods ( he loves being free and running) All in all a good purchase.

When the button is pressed or when locked in place, the lead will still extend. When trying to pull my dog back or hold him in place, the lead slips a good 3-6 and inches. Doesn’t feel secure at all - I think it grips the tape rather than locking the actual mechanism like other, better, leads do. My dog is a friendly/playful 35kg Golden Retriever. Lead says up to 50kg. Can’t imagine how rubbish it would perform holding back say an aggressive 45 kg dog.

Unfortunately, this lead is a real let down. While the length of extension is good and holding it is comfortable, the actual mechanism is poor and it tangles easily and, therefore, doesn't retract properly. It's easy enough to press the button to stop the extension but very hard to lock into place and doesn't even do this consistently. Overall, a poor lead. I'd recommend looking elsewhere.

Many times the mechanism would locked and my dog would went freely on the street due to a lack of tension on the cord. Do not buy, you will be gambling with your pet’s life.

This extendable lead is great value at around half the price of equivalent specification leads in pet stores.Comfortable to hold and strongly constructed. My only issue is that the slide to lock the lead is slightly difficult to use.Overall highly recommended as a "starter" to experience using the retractable-type leads.
