My old 5,000 BTU Carrier was excellent but this unit re-writes the standards. SUPER QUIET! My bedroom maintains a perfect 70 degrees with 48% humidity (comfortable) all night. It is HOT outside, but this unit handles it with grace.Normally the old A/C unit could not get lower than high 70's touching 80 degrees when it is hot outside. Those temps in my bedroom are uncomfortable - even making me sweat in bed.But this Friedrich is like the "Cadillac" of A/C units. Mounted it through a wall perpendicular to my bed, and about 5 feet from the foot of it. Cannot hear the A/C make a sound. Incredibly perfect temperature for my metabolism that would otherwise be sweating all night.This unit would be a bargain at twice the price. Bravo! Standing ovation! THIS IS WHAT A QUALITY A/C IS ALL ABOUT.

Great unit! Have had almost a week and doing a great job even in the HOT Phoenix summer. Easy to install through the wall, is an Energy Star unit. Even has a money saving mode so the fan doesn't work when the compressor isn't like house units. Handy remote, you set the temperature you want not just high, medium or low. Easy to clean and reuseable filter.Review update: 10/8/2018It has been over 1 year and I still would give it 5 stars. I use it constantly during the very HOT Phoenix summers (for 2 so far, this year one of the hottest: well over 120 days of greater than 100 degrees May-Oct) in my outside stand alone studio where I keep food and a frig so I run it nonstop from during that time. Love everything about this A/C. It has not caused any problems for me since installed in 2017. Great unit!

While clearly a premium air conditioner in many aspects, my unit was defective out of the box. The blower fan fan is rubbing against the fan housing and making a very loud noise. I would usually forgive this as a rare problem but it seems many other customers are having the same issue. For this reason I would not recommend this unit to others considering the premium price tag. This sort of defect is unacceptable for a $550 window AC. If you have already decided to purchase one, hopefully you will not be one of the unlucky ones as otherwise this is nice a high-end unit. Customer service experience has not been great either.If you have just purchased one, I can only recommend to keep the shipping box fully intact when unboxing. In case you have the same issue you may decide to return the unit as your only other option will be to have a local AC repair service which does Friedrich warranty work (if available) come fix it. In my area there are none available for weeks. Some areas may not have anyone close enough to be covered under the warranty.If you have an issue such as mine, don't bother contacting Friedrich, they will just direct you to call local AC service places.

This is a bear. It is very heavy, bulky, and complicated to install. The directions are only okay, with some illustrations not detailed enough, leading to guesses. The installation process is long and requires more tools than indicated. A few of the requirements for the installation of screws (and such) are impossible without special tools (e.g., extra stubby screw drivers to install side screws after the unit is in place). By the way, the first thing you do upon starting the installation is to take the unit apart; compressor removed from the frame. On the bright side, the unit is well made with seals and supports well thought out. DO NOT BUY THIS UNIT WITHOUT A SEPARATELY PURCHASED SUPPORT STAND!! On the down side, I did have one problem with quality; after fully installing the unit and front cover, the coil cooling fan banged against the frame making a terrible racket. Why wasn't this noted at the factory??? Test the unit on the ground prior to installing it in the frame!!!! A thin washer, that lifted the fan frame a bit, solved the problem. Would I buy another one; yes. But, I have the experience now.

Friedrich has an excellent reputation for the quality of their products. This unit exceeds my expectations. It’s super quiet. You don’t even realize it’s running. I set it to the desired temperature (68 degrees), after I installed it and haven’t touched since. The remote has all the functions of the unit but since setting it, I haven’t had to use it (it will probably get lost somewhere in the house with the other remotes that have wandered off ). It shuts off and starts based on the thermostat setting. It is a little pricey but well worth it. I HIGHLY recommended this!!

Bought a discounted unit in "like new" condition, arrived completely smashed up and unusable.Bought a full price "New" unit. The fan hits the internal styrofoam and makes an awful "Wham!-wham-wham!" sound. Posted a video of the noise, my review was then refused publication. Ordered a replacement for one last try.Beware!3rd ac arrived, it works great! And is very quiet too. The box looked used. I can see inside where the fan used to hit the Styrofoam. This leads me to believe Friedrich is refurbishing their faulty units OR running them until the internal styrofoam wears out from the fan hitting it, then reselling them as "New."Over all, a really unpleasant and arduous experience. This is a terrific product. Photo does not due it justice as it is solid looking and attractive. It's best feature however is that it is extremely QUIET, which was primary concern. We have had various brands of A/C's in this area (large living/dining room) and all of them have been offensively noisy. After much research I discovered that Friedrich is known for its quiet feature, and I can attest this is true. It also cools extremely well, ice cold, and has great energy-saving features. We have finally found the A/C of choice!
