Rob Roy : Boring and disquieting all at once...
The movie could be considered good entertainment, but the hero doesn't amount to much... Tim Roth is exceptional in the antagonist's role, one of the best villains ever to grace the screen, but the blandness of Liam Neeson as Rob Roy does allow for some "disturbing" scenes, as some viewers have termed them...The whole screenplay is clumsy and inconsistent, and one simply can't understand why the Duke of Montrose can't see through Cunningham's treachery of stealing Rob Roy's money, when he repeatedly mocks his newfound - and sudden! - source of income...The movie's only appeal is its humour - and the scenery :-) -, but that's not enough to compensate for its numerous drawbacks... All in all, a dismaying story (no, eroticism doesn't save it all) and a certain belittlement of a legendary Scottish figure...
