excellent series
Enjoyable space opera with good character development, excellent plot lines and characters you root for. Only downside is the loose ends were not tied down on who was responsible for Admiral Morrison’s command and certain deaths which surely seemed set ups from the beginning. Left unresolved but all in all a great series with plenty of action.

good book
A really good book series. I’m looking forward to reading the next book series. I really like that Amazon put the audiobook with Kindle unlimited, so if borrow it from kindle unlimited, you can get the narration free.

A fight until the end!
A very well written story! Each of the books could stand on its own, but they were woven together and well done! You couldn't help but be engaged with the characters, some of whom were good guys and some were just horrible, but they were the story! A good read and promise of more in the future!

One of my favorite authors.
I read a lot of books, and finding the next read can be a challenge. There are a few authors who consistently deliver stories and world's that feel real, with characters that have depth and humanity. Christopher G. Mitral is one of my go to authors, and I look forward to eah new book and series. The Angel in the Whirlwind series lives up to my standards. Interesting characters, multiple story lines, exciting action, and believable world's.

So pleased to have read this series.
4.5 stars, I don't really go into detailed reviews as there are so many other reviewers that do that so well. I do however read about 90-100 books a year and my reviews are about whether or not the author kept my attention, the story was well developed, the world which the story takes place in interesting and are the characters truly evolve into the heroes we seek in reading these fantasy books. I am pleased to say that author Nuttall has written a winner in this series.I was curious as to the last few chapters pace which was slow, but Kat our protagonist will continue in another series; to which I am delighted per the authors notes. So I will be reading those when they come to be or find them.I read but mostly listened via accompanying audio version through Kindle Unlimited.

Too good to end
When I started the Angel in the Whirlwind series, it was the second series I read by Mr. Nuttall. I had enjoyed the Ark Royal series very much, and the synopsis drew me in.Now, having finished Desperate fire, I felt his craft of taking a space military and making it believable. He can really write so you engage and invest in his characters. Kat fit right into a character I could read about, and here at the doorway to the Theocracy, we have seen her grow and excel thru the war.I just found myself wishing that the war didn't need to be so real. The losses taken actually hurt, and got me more into the life of Kat and her beliefs. No spoilers, just a very good finish to a very good series.Cannot wait for more.

Good but not great . . . .
After enjoying the first three novels in this four-book story "arc" (as the author calls it), I had to read this last one. Frankly, I enjoyed the previous three more. Instead of having the most satisfying conclusion (which I was expecting), this one had the least (at least to me) -- almost an anticlimax -- and the plot was not as tight. Also, the central character, Kat Falcone, seems peripheral to the action much of the time. At the end, the author promises to start a new story "arc" featuring the same protagonist, but that was already obvious from the various irons he placed in the fire. [Note: Instead of reading, I listened to much of this book using the $1.99 audio add-on -- once again a great value. The bargain audio was a big reason I decided to buy the first and subsequent entries in this series.]

A Cautionary Tale - Sci-fi With Reflections of Today's World
This is a really good book, the final in a four book series with a heroine that everyone can identify with and a story line that keeps the reader on their toes. This author writes consistently readable books, and I have read most of them to my delight. But there is a major plot theme that underpins the whole story, and that is that the 'villain ' is an entire society so caught up in religious extremism that they are a threat to all human societies. They murder all who don't join them and even murdering who do join them. The parallels in the world today are unmistakable and I fear that our world may face a planet based version of this story of we do not do something to prevent a global conflagration.

Good series
Hints that the series may be added to in time. Well written and enjoyable books, story made sense as it unravelled. Will look out for more stories in the future.

Cliffhanger or blackhole hanger....
Come on, had to leave it like that? Please dont tell me the king had assassinated kat father coz if i was kat i will drop an antimatter on the on top of the kings head. Blood is blood. I want more. I hope kat can be more than just an officer maybe extremely rich too with the help of william.

Worlds under fire!!
Very good story. A shame about the story near the ending. I would have liked to see Pat survived. The next Arc of books should be interesting.

Hermann Jung
Nice story, despite (or because?) it is very predictable. We recognise Normandy in it and IS. The story is easy transferable to an Earth setting. The battleships are functioning like the Startrek starships. I always wondered why in case off hullbreach the captain has to order to close hatches, to seal of a deck. That should go automatic. Or that medics should start to do someting. The kind of religion the Theocrats have, is not described. Sounds a bit Islamic, but also with Christian and Jewish names. The planets name is Zoroastric. The story is well told, I liked reading it.

I enjoyed it
I do have a number of issues with this book, but regardless, I enjoyed it.There are a number of continuity errors. In the first book, it was the 7th fleet that was attacked at Cadiz, but it is constantly referred to as the 5th fleet. At the beginning of the series, it is stated that Kat is 29. In this book, at least 18 months afterward, she is again referred to being 29. She is actually 30/31.The dialogue and character development is relatively basic, but if you're used to CGN books, then it's fine. This whole series is full of war crimes and atrocities but lacks the wordplay to make you feel anything.
