Man for All Oceans [Grayson, Stan] on desertcart.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. Man for All Oceans Review: A New Look At the Life and Times of Joshua Slocum - Stan Grayson has added to his impressive list of marine titles with the best and most comprehensive biography of Joshua Slocum yet. The remarkable career of the world's first single-handed circumnavigator takes on new life and color here. I think I've read all previous biographical material on the subject, and I find that the content of this book is so fresh and interesting that I can't put it down. Half way through the book, I've only gotten as far as Gibraltar with Slocum and Grayson, but I'm so hooked that I will be skipping duties and chores until we all get back to Massachusetts. Then I will be compelled to get out my copy of "Sailing Alone Around The World", going aboard the old "Spray" and starting all over again. "A Man For All Oceans" is a fascinating portrait of a great adventurer,, and a solid slice of American history. Review: A Book for Every Sailor to Read - This is the authoritative book on Joshua Slocum. Forty years in the making, this is a poignant biography of a professional sailing captain who cannot/will not adapt to the age of steam. The story of Slocum's "Sailing Alone Around the World" is well known. But there is so much more to the man and his accomplishments. If you love the sea and sailing, you will love this book.

Thoughtful insight into Slocums life
Well written insight into the life of Joshua Slocums. Anyone who has sailed the world's oceans in small boats or hope to, will find this a must read about one of the greatest mariners.

Definitive biography of the first man to sail alone around the world.
Finally, the definitive biography of the patron saint of single handed sailors! Much new material, placed in the context of the nautical world of the late nineteenth century and the end of the age of sail.

Fantastic Book about One of the Greatest Sailors
Fantastic Book about One of the Greatest Sailors...What he accomplished in Circumnavigating the world with a boat he built and no technology because he sailed from 1895 to 1898. Mr. J Slocum is my Hero...I named my Wave-runner after Mr. Slocum. This is a page turner written by Joshua Slocum

A great read from beginning to end
Mr. Grayson really delivers on the prospect of finding out much more about Mr. Slocum, his family, acquaintances, and his epic voyage. A great read from beginning to end. The appendix entries too are spectacular and I will be trying Mr. Slocum's fish chowder recipe soon.

I've read every bio of Slocum I could find, and this is my favourite. Exhaustive (read those footnotes!), clearly written, and packed with beautiful maps and illustrations. Though Grayson is standing on the shoulders of earlier Slocum scholars, his account is the definitive biography.
