Talens Art Creation Gouache Paint Starter Set with 24 Colors (12 ml tubes) | Painting for Adults

I got a couple of professional grade gouaches from Talens and had a lot of fun with them but did not want to spend the money to get a large set of them so I got these to experiment with to see if I would be interested in adding the professional ones later. I did a couple of really quick paintings on black paper to see how opaque they are. For the most part it is pretty opaque, I did have to do double layer on some of the colors, the yellow was still steaky after a couple of layers and adding more layers just caused the dry layer to lift up. There was a color difference in the vermilion in the professional tube I have and in these.Over all for the price I feel like they were good quality and great for experimenting with and for beginners in the medium. They not the best quality but I did not want to pay for the best. I will probably add the higher quality tubes as I want or need to starting with yellow.

I use RT watercolor and love them. Was introduced to Gouache and tried other brands before going back to RT. Both Gouache and Watercolor in the Royal Talens brand are perfect for intermediate artists and can be purchased at a very decent price.

Great pigment, first time using this paint . I really like it you can use a lot or a a little water and pigment is still bright and colorful

I bought this this set of paints because I thought that this would be similar to Royal Talens Extra Fine Quality Gouache and I thought that I could save money on buying their student grade paints. This set has a very nice range of colors; however, I had a hard time applying flat colors on paper and it’s very streaky even after mixing it with white paint. The consistency out of the tube is identical to their Extra Fine Quality Gouache but the finish result is very disappointing. Whether I apply it thick or thin, the paint just won’t appear streak-free.To be fair, my expectations were probably way too high because I do have their artists grade gouache, Royal Talens Extra Fine Gouache, and I absolutely love it. I can use it thin and get watercolor effects or use it thick and get flat, bold colors. So it’s clear to me that I should continue to use their artists grade paint and just use a few colors and mix my own colors from their mixing set.Overall, I do not recommend Talens Art Creation Gouache set because they’re too streaky and very difficult to handle. From now on I will only use Royal Talens Extra Fine Quality Gouache.

I use a number of gouache brands that I really love. This brand is more like tempura paint and not as opaque as I prefer but I can still use it for a different effect.
