No overpowering scent - just great hydrating formulations for skin and beard alike...
Percy Nobleman is a British brand specialising in men's grooming products that was founded in 2012. This Beard Starter Kit is smartly packaged - and would be very suitable for gifting. In the kit are 2 travel sized products in a 2 step starter beard care regime - a 75ml tube of Beard Wash containing hydrating sesame oil, shea butter and coconut oil. Scented with lime and cedarwood, the fragrance is low key yet fresh and masculine.Step 2 is a 30ml amber glass dropper bottle of Signature Scented Beard Conditioning Oil. This contains more hydration in the form of sweet almond oil, argan oil, avocado oil, jojoba oil, olive oil, sunflower oil and castor oil. This too has a fresh, citrus fragrance.Neither of the products have overpowering scents - they're very subtle. The man I gave these to to try was pleased the wash and oil weren't too highly fragranced - as he pointed out, a strong scent would be right under the nose as well as possibly competing with any aftershave.I like the fact that these formulations are designed not to strip the skin of its natural oils. In my view both these 'English made' products and the packaging have a quality look and feel - and the price seems reasonable at £15 at time of writing.

Oil is good, I don't like the wash at all.
This is a 'starter set' of beard wash and oil. It's nicely presented in a gift-appropriate box. The oil is in a 30ml dropper bottle, and the wash is in a small, 75ml travel tube.My beard tends to vary in length between the longest setting on my clippers (14mm) and ZZ Top, depending on how much Mrs. Z complains that I look like a tramp. At the moment it's quite long and does need something to bring it under control. I have lots of washes, oils and beard balms to choose from.Speaking first about the beard wash, I'm sorry to say that I wouldn't ever choose this one. Now, that's mostly because of personal preference - I just don't like the smell, which is... unusual. Notice I say 'smell', not, 'scent'. It's quite strong and 'chemically', with an undertone of wood. At first I thought it reminded me of my woodwork shop, but not in a good way. If it smelled of pine, cedar and camellia oil (used to prevent my tools from rusting), that would be wonderful. It doesn't. It took me a while to work it out, but it actually smells like hot-air paint stripping with a hint of stale olive oil. Not what I want under my nose all evening. The wash comes in a tube like toothpaste, making it easily portable. It is slightly runnier than I expected, so beware when squeezing it out, or you will end up with a lot more of it that you wanted and it won't go back in the tube.Smell aside, the wash itself feels quite strong. It feels like it washes all the natural oils out of my beard and leaves it very dry and stiff. I would rather use any of the other washes I have - even just soap or regular shampoo. The oil is better, and does restore some of the softness stripped out by the wash. It's absorbed in and doesn't leave my beard feeling oily at all. In fact, as I was idly stroking my beard while I contemplated my next sentence, I realised it is really quite soft. It doesn't smell of much, which is actually a positive point. Most of the oils I have are quite strongly scented, but too much scent is not always appropriate. It's good to have an oil which is quite mildly scented in the cabinet if you need it. The 30ml dropper bottle is the same as most of my other oils, and will last for ages as you don't need much.So. Oil is good. Wash not my cup of tea at all. I really wanted to be supportive of a UK company, but the market for this sort of product is competitive at the moment. I think they need to go away and rethink the wash before I can really recommend the set. You can buy the oil on its own and I really do recommend that.

Great gift idea & Fantastic products
I got this for my brother as a gift. He has a pretty full, long beard which was dry and unruly. He had never used any beard products before but definitely needed to! He absolutely loves this set. The beard wash lathers up nicely to clean and refresh the beard. Nice woody, manly smell to it. The oil afterwards is what smoothed, tamed and hydrated his beard. After using for a week his beard is looking much healthier, shinier and softer. Great quality, well made and nice packaging. Perfect for a gift and ideal for travelling with as they're the right size. Even though it's a great product it's really expensive for what it is. Otherwise it would have been a 5 star product had you got more for your money or it was cheaper than £15!

A giftable set, of good quality, possibly a little expensive?
The beard wash is like shampoo, you lather leave it on and rinse after a little time. I didn't find it lathered as such, and the scent was quite subtle - described as lime and cedarwood scented and 100% derived from nature. I did feel it left my beard feeling cleaner and a bit fresher. The oil I much preferred, it's left my beard softer, fresh scented. They describe it as:TOP: Melon Apple Bergamot (hard to argue with that)MIDDLE: Grapefruit Patchouli Black PepperBOTTOM: Tobacco, Amber, Musk, Vanilla. The middle and bottom notes, not so sure, but then I am not used to really paying attention to that.As a little gift set, it's very nice - if a touch small (see the sizes) - but it has charm, and certainly doesn't feel cheap in any way.If you like it, it will be worth the five stars - there are cheaper out there, and more expensive, neither of which is a guarantee of higher/lesser quality.⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐👍

Pleasantly suprrised
I will be quite honest when I first started using this beard starter kit I was a bit upset. It comes in nice packaging and looks a great little starter kit, there's an amazing amount of ingredients in both the shampoo and oil all of which are great, but in two days of seven it was leaving my beard slightly brittle and you need quite alot of the shampoo to get a good larther and to me smelt like mushrooms which I didn't like but as the week went on I got used to the smell( which is only the shampoo I might add the oil as no smell to it) and my beard got softer and softer in fact softer than my normal weekly stuff so I was over the moon. Its a great size pack to take on my weeks to my caravan and any trips between. Note to self give things time and see what happens. So overall I'm very happy and will be getting more.
