Five more from Hitch
Beautiful 4K/UHD release of five more of Hitchcock's films. All three volumes from this set are worth having if you love Hitchcock. No streaming service can take away the media you own on physical releases, and this is as beautiful as Hitchcock's films have ever looked since day 1 in the theater.

Wow! As a lifelong Hitchcock fan, I'm impresed!
I've enjoyed Hitchcock's movies since I first discovered them half a century ago. I'm also a lifelong professional journalist who studied film criticism for my undergraduate degree, focusing on Hitchcock as an auteur. So, yup, I'm about as avid a fan as you will find out there. I'm taking the time to write this review to make two points: First, this 4K and Bluray set really is terrific and, second, these particular films are true Hitchcock gems. So, the first point: My wife and I have been picking up 4K versions of a few of our favorite films over the past year, since we upgraded our home video system. And the experience has been both surprising and sometimes disappointing. One of the most common problems we encounter is a 4K rendition of a classic movie that no longer includes "extras" we expected to get with the movie. The producers simply plopped the 4K version down on a disc and left off the cool stuff we also like to watch. Another problem we've encountered is an occasional 4K disk that for some reason pauses or halts in the middle, causing us to reboot the system. So, our 5 stars on this set is an affirmation of the excellent quality of these Hitchcock 4K disks, which do indeed include fascinating "extras." What's more? Every movie also comes in a Bluray version on a separate disk, so it's very easy to watch this set with friends, even if you find out that they don't have 4K capacity. You can easily switch to the Bluray disk, which most video systems can support. This is a very nice set of 10 disks, 5 of them 4K and 5 of them Bluray! Then, second and perhaps more important is that these films are wonderful treasures! The set starts with the 1942 release Saboteur. Hitchcock had started planning this film when Pearl Harbor was attacked, so the final production shifted toward a torn-from-the-headlines urgency about the potential of sabotage during WWII. The film also includes some of Hitchcock fans' favorite "set pieces," most notably the truly terrifying chase scene at the Statue of Liberty.Shadow of a Doubt and The Trouble with Harry are two rarely seen Hitchcock classics that are quirky to say the least! I won't add any spoilers here, but both films are odd-ball pleasures. Each adds its own unusual twists and turns on the basic Hitchcock genre.Mainly, I want to urge more viewers to see Marnie and Family Plot. To be honest, Hitchcock fans way back while he was still alive argued about the quality of Marnie. When we all first saw this film, we wondered: Has the master lost his sense of balance? Why was he so obsessed with Tippi Hedren? This turned out to be the final Hitchcock film co-starring one of his "classic Hitchcock blondes." We enjoyed seeing Sean Connery in Marnie but Tippi just seemed, well, almost untalented. However, I have to say, this film has grown on many of us over the years. While original reviews definitely were mixed and The NYTimes called this "disappointing," please check out the review aggregators now. Rotten Tomatoes currently gives this a very favorable aggregated rating and that's despite the fact that the 1964 film includes a number of elements that are troubling to watch today. Nevertheleass, the movie is well worth rediscovering. And finally I have to explain that true Hitchcock fans vigorously debated what we thought of his last film, Family Plot, when it debuted in 1976. When shooting Family Plot, Hitchcock had fun with a lot of his venerable techniques, sometimes to less effect than he once enjoyed. There's a chase scene with "rear projection" that's a bit of a groaner as a result of the technique. However, once again, don't take my word for it. There's clear evidence that the critical verdict on Family Plot is quite encouraging today. Rotten Tomatoes currently gives Family Plot a remarkable 92 percent positive ranking.Clearly, I'm a fan. And, at this point, you may know little about Hitchcock as you're looking over this product page. However, I can tell you: This is a terrific gift for yourself or a movie lover on your shopping list. The five movies are widely varied, surprising, quirky and will give you hours of fun and lively discussion.

More stunning restorations!
The restoration work on these films is nothing short of incredible, resulting in the best possible presentation. I truly hope that more companies follow suit and release their own curated collections.

I purchased all the 4k reissues of these Hitchcock classics. Superior in every way to the previous Blue Ray reissues.

Very nice, but don't expect true 4k quality
Nice compact packaging, except it is impossible to pull out a disk without smudging it. Of the movies I've watched so far, the quality is indeed slightly better than my Blu-rays, but obviously not full restorations. They have a slight fuzziness, as if projected on a screen with a texture. Seems like the black & white films do better.
