Not Great
I could not get into this story. In the beginning, I felt it was information overload. There were all these characters and descriptions, and then Baden's back story all in the same spot and it was very confusing. It felt like those things could have been explained gradually throughout the book. *SPOILER* Also, the whole dog thing- who agrees to marry a murderer for their dogs? I mean, call the police and have them retrieve the dogs. And when they're killed and the heroine is flashed to a different continent, she's so deep in greif, she doesn't even try to escape or care to ask questions about the whole magical immortal thing everyone has going on. I would understand that type of grief if it was three children who were killed, then I wouldn't want to get out of bed or pay attention to what country I'm in either, but they were dogs. Don't get me wrong, I care about animals. I grew up on a farm with different animals, especially an abundance of cats and dogs, but the heroine should've had some type of survival instinct kick in. I don't think I made it past chapter 7ish before I gave up reading. I just don't think I'm into Gena's stories, I tried reading another book of hers from a different series and couldn't get into that one either. Oh well. 🤷♀️

I thought it was kind of boring, and I really didn't understand why she brought ...
I did not care for the female character. She was always talking down to Baden, and all she cared about was her dogs. She compared everything that happened in her relationship with Baden, with how she trained dogs. She talked about her dogs constantly, not a page went by without hearing about these dogs. I thought it was kind of boring, and I really didn't understand why she brought him back from the dead. His death was a huge catalyst for pretty much the entire series. He was the reason for the war between the hunters. Bringing him back to life seemed to serve no purpose in the overall story.

Surprisingly hard to finish
I am a HUGE LOTU fan and never thought I would be giving one of the books anything less than four stars, but this one was so hard for me to get through. I was loving it until I got about half way through and it was way too corny. The whole big bad alpha male thing when the guy is like "you're mine! I forbid you to do anything!" And then the girl trying to show she can be strong and prove her toughness. I'm all for alpha males and tough females who don't let anyone boss them around, but sometimes it's way too much. Gena made Katarina into a hellhound and fight Hades who is super freaking strong. I'm sorry, but I loved Hades, now I'm starting to not love him as much because he doesn't come across as bad boyish, strong, and powerful as much as he used to considering Katarina almost beat him. I love strong, independent women who can fight and are badass, but Gena sometimes just makes the girl annoying and bitchy instead. I thought the same about Keeley. Since this book was so hard for me to get through,I read the next book which was Cameo's book and freaking loved it just like the others! I could go on for days about Cameo and Lazarus and the whole book. I loved it so much. Now Cameo is an absolute badass and doesn't come across as annoying. Same with Lazarus. He didn't seem too demanding or psycho alpha male. I actually like their characters. The characters are well developed. Katarina however was all over the place and I didn't like her. Gena tried way too hard with her and Baden's characters. I didn't fall in love with them, or even like them. Maybe it's because they haven't been around for the whole series so Gena didn't get to develop their characters like the others.I love all the LOTU books and all of the characters, but this one was surprisingly disappointing. At least I already read the next one and know that it's awesome, so hopefully this will be the only one I don't care for. Looking forward to book fourteen!

A great read!
“You really are beautiful, you know.”“Only on the outside.” – The Darkest Torment (Lords of the Underworld) This was one of the many interactions I loved from this book. It describes what Baden truly feels about himself with very few words. Forced to house the demon known as Destruction, Baden endures a daily battle between his own soul and the beast’s, for control over his body.Katarina ends up going from a horrible situation, to something worse. When she is taken on her wedding day, to be used as leverage by Baden to obtain an object he seeks from her husband, she is thrown into a world of madness. Over time she comes to understand the immortals that share Baden’s life, and calms the raging beast he carries inside.I haven’t read other books in this series, and what I feel the author does particularly well is bring you up to speed with all of the characters, and their histories, without over-explaining who they are and how they tie into the plot. It had to be a challenge, especially considering just how many couples are needed to control the demons that were let out of Pandora’s Box. She navigates the reader through the relationships masterfully, while still allowing each of their individual voices to shine through. All in all a great read! I will be checking out the rest of the series for sure!

Some places you don't need to go
I love this series. But as my title says there are some places a story doesn't need to go. The lords already had enough issues with their possession. But with the incorporation of Satan it just went into a whole nother realm. The story was pushing it with the angels or sent ones as their called getting married and having girl friends and consorts but Lucifer being Hades son is just just a bit far fetched. I enjoy these books but you leave Lucifer where he belongs and get back to the heart of where these stories use to be, that was enough drama.I enjoyed the book despite Satan. Hell and the plot of the lords winning a war against the Devil.

Gena does Beauty and the Beast...
Or a Beauty Tames the Beast...?Baden has become Hades’ son and lapdog and is often overcome with Destruction’s rage. He then meets his OTP (one true pairing) who happens to be a dog trainer... or is she something more? This only has three stars because after having read it twice I have yet to really form a strong opinion. I’m not sure what to think. I love the concept - and it works really well! I love the characters and the development, too.I’m just not sure... it is so strange! I think it may be the character interactions that threw me. They can be haphazard in places. And just as I got used to one character and something was happening, the chapter ended! However, I do like all the added extras in the novel: the ‘what’s happened so far’, character guides etc. They really help remind regular readers keep up to date and newcomers on who is who.Irrespective of the characters, the result was the same. A Lords of the Underworld novel that delivered action, betrayal, violence, humour and romance in equal measure.

Loved it
The protagonists in The Dark Torment are a bit of a surprise but just as enthralling as the other books in the "Lords of the Underworld" with Lucifer and Hades still conniving for supremacy.Baden was driven to death by the demon of Distrust when he ended up dead and spent centuries in purgatory. He is now back, bound to Hades and Destruction with no choice in doing his biddings.Katarina is an expert dog trainer. Her dogs are her babies and her love for these babies has landed her into a marriage with a despicable character through blackmail.Baden is unpredictable and violent to the point where he is a danger to everyone around him. Destruction wants nothing more than to destroy any perceived threats! His retrieval mission for Hades turns into a bloodbath. Unsuccessful into securing the item, he takes the bride as hostage for a bargaining exchange. The bride, Katarina is neither impressed nor intimated by his ruthless behaviour. She is more intrigued by him!Although Baden jumps to the wrong conclusions about Katarina, he is just as fascinated by her. He becomes very protective towards her, something that she resents. When she discovers that his temper is governed by a beast, she is determined to tame that beast. How hard can it be? She sets about dissentisiting him from his adversion to touch. Soon, passion burns between them. Baden makes the mistake of treating Katarina as a weak human who needs his protection and Katarina is determined to show him that she can be strong. This leads to conflict and when they are not making passionate love, they are bickering. His temper and her stubbornness outweigh what their hearts know and want.Baden is competing with Pandora for his freedom and the missions he has to accomplish are treacherous. Pandora doesn't play fair but then again, neither does Baden. Despite the change in him, the family is behind him all the way. Most of them know only too well about the torment that he is going through. The characters from the previous instalments play valuable roles throughout the story. I love the chemistry between Baden and Katarina. They can be frustrating at times but that's what makes them who they are. It becomes more and more captivating as the story develops. There are some cringing moments, some laugh out loud and scary ones. The passion is sizzling hot. All in all, I thoroughly enjoyed reading The Darkest Torment and look forward to reading the next one.

She's done it again!! 5🌟s
I loved baden!! What a poor troubled sweet guy bless him he's had a hard time of it. Katarina she's strong willed and loving the only thing that annoyed me about her was the argument she had with baden I was on badens side well mabi not but she took it took far. They are a great as a couple and I can't really fault them I know some reviews said that they were disappointed but I can't say I was I enjoyed it just as much as I enjoyed the others. I can't wait to see how taliyahs story turns out with a certain hot hot guy 😉 also cameo I hope she gets her happy ever after if anyone deserves it it's definitely her. I'm also not talking to gilly and I'm going to leave that at that. Back to baden and katarina their story is a great addition to the Lord of the underworld it's just as breath taking as the story's that came before and I for one can not wait for the next instalment who's story will it be I vote cameo please please please let it be cameos 💖 hopefully we don't have to wait long.

NOT THE BEST
Not the best of the series. The best was the Darkest Kiss. I loved the dialogue and humour in that one. All the later ones seem to be missing thatWill probably carry on reading because I want to know what happens to Cameo and William, but the series as a whole is not on my must read list anymore..

How I've missed these books. Please don't wait too long before you release the next one. As always this story was funny, intense and heartbreaking. I love the relationship between all the Lord's and the sense of family, which comes across in every page. Thank you Gena..

Liked it but didn't love it
I chose a 4 star because Gena's writing is superb as always. I feel that it was an excellent book all round and I got my overdose of the Lords but I did feel that the way the female characters was built let this book down. I didn't like her, I thought she was horrible. But I loved Baden and the others enough I guess to let it go. Overall, loved the book, the story but didn't like Katarina
