The fit of the pestle into the mortar is so perfect, it looks like the pestle was carved out of the stone to make the mortar bowl (I don’t think it really is; I doubt it would be possible). With this unit, there’s no chasing your grindables around inside the mortar with the pestle, as you must in most m&ps. The grinding surfaces are slightly rough to facilitate grinding, but I’ve never seen a completely smooth m&p. One reviewer complained that some of his medication powder sticks to the surfaces, and I can see how that would be the case. We use a smaller one for our cat’s pills so the amount lost to “stickage” is negligible. I use this one to grind dried mealworms into smaller pieces for our bird feeder, and it works beautifully. Some dust does stick, but not enough to be a problem, and it easily brushes off with a fingernail. As others have noted, this m&p is very attractive, which is a nice bonus. It’s the most functional mortar & pestle I’ve ever used. You can grind a small handful (like a couple of tablespoons worth) at a time, if you press slowly so stuff doesn’t come out over the lip. I’m very impressed with this thing. I wish they came in a set with different sizes; I’d buy them all!

I have a dog that will not take meds. I’ve mixed in cheese & peanut butter, placed in dinner foods, and wrestled to stick pills dog his throat. Nothing worked.Got this and ground pills into a powder. Sprinkled over food and he doesn’t know it’s there. He now takes his meds in his food without any struggle.

I’ve never used it to grind I bought to grind pills. My dogs gets pills for allergy and UTIs. This thing is great and very easy to crush her pills to fine powder and mix with her food. I even use it for some of my pills.The current pill grinders on the market are nothing and overpriced compared to this littler fella. Even the expensive ones are not that great. Highly recommendd.
