Great comback from the not so consistent second book. A must read.
American Gothic at its best.First, I want to address the artwork; it's marvelous and consistent, unlike the second book that was very rushed and all over the place (the reasons are addressed in the introductory part of the book by the way). The stories are powerful and the dialogs strong and the fact that you see Constantine for the first time and his gang still alive was a real treat.Read it!

Expanding a conquered territory
After testing the limits of comics in volume 2, Alan Moore reaps the fruits planted in this volume 3 and starts the "American Gothic" arch, exploring the contradictions of America perception of right and wrong. In the first story, from a drawing of Steve Bissette of a radioactive man - Nuke Face -, Moore delives a horror story framed by news from newspapers in the wind on disasters at nuclear power plants. Swamp Thing has a supporting role (but terrifying) and begin to understand the extent of his powers. From the following stories Moore recreates three classic characters of horror stories: vampires, werewolves and zombies. But remember that the writer is Moore, and his vampires looks like punks and lives in a city flooded by a dam and has dreadfull family instincts. The werewolf is here used on a feminist tale, which discusses the subordinate role of women in American society and the zombies history appear to highlight the racial question, and the hypocrisy of its overcoming in the early 80s.And the appearance of the best creation of Moore, the magician John Constantine, here designed as a copy of the star Sting. And is Constantine that will guide the Swamp Thing in his discovery of the extension of his powers, but been a pain in the ass all the time..All this in a neat edition, with great recolorization process. A must for those who like Moore or comics.

Not like the Wes Craven movie from 1982
For those who were introduced to Swamp Thing via the movie starring Adrian Barbeau. This is not like it in anyway, Alex Holland is not a human, but an Elemental with Holland's memories and personality. This is a cerebral series and is not like Superman, Batman, any other Superhero franchise. Vertigo is not a line of comics aimed at entire family, but the member of the family who either/or likes late night movies, heavy metal, or saving the environment.

Expanding scope
I think that one of the things I liked about the first couple collections that I read of the Alan Moore swamp thing series is that it seemed really localized. It was small bore and focused on what was going on in Louisiana. It did connect the organic nature of the main character to larger nature, but it was a very intense and personal story and not one of bigger sweeps. I think with the character that this kind of focus was very successful. This third collection here expands that scope and brings in other superheroes, and the whole Justice League and John Constantine. It's almost as if the writer needed their character to do something. I think it's partially that deadline pressure thing that even the most talented artists are not immune from.

Outstanding
This third installment of Moore's brilliant run on Swamp Thing introduces one of the most beloved Vertigo characters John Constantine.Having perfectly set up the tone of the series in the first two volumes,Moore is hitting on all cylinders here. The intensity of Swamp thing and Abby's relationship is slightly set aside in favour of more action packed stories revolving around Swamp Thing's self-discovery, triggered by the appearance of misterious British stranger, Constantine who uses Swampy's curiosity about his own nature to guide him and employ him to deal with horrors that J.C. is concerned with for vague reasons. As Constantine leads Swampy on his own path of discovery, Moore slowly unravels the story to the readers. Each issue being shrouded in dreadful mystery, it is almost impossible to put the book down. This is highly recommended if you are a fan of great series of graphic novels such as Sandman, Preacher or Watchmen. The testament to the quality of these comics collected in this volume is the fact that they still remain fresh and better written than 99 percent of titles out there. The artwork is also outstanding. especially given the year these books were originally released in.You are bound to thoroughly enjoy this one.

One of the best
Is hard to write a review for Alan Moore's run on swamp thing, this is a ground breaking masterpiece. But perhaps is best to say why isn't an absolute edition out? Because of the recycling paper this edition sports? This run is far superior to watchmen (it should get an absolute) if your a Moore fan this should be in your collection. There's so many well thought moments in this run that is safe to say that no one has ever come close to igniting so much passion and so much character into this book, ever again. My only complain is how the color looks, it doesn't look like is been remastered although it looks better than the previous collection (the new digital dowload looks way better). Except for that, the hardcover is great. I suggest that you get them all, for is such a powerhouse of story telling, it has moments of joy, action, and sadness, that after you read the run, it will grow in your mind because it will plant a seed of wonder in your brain I will never forget the saga of the swamp thing and neither will you.

Adeus ao "American Gothic"
Chego a dizer com lágrimas nos olhos que se encerra o arco de histórias mais legal do Monstro do Pântano.A "Crise" se intensifica e o universo inteiro está em jogo.
