Perfect for preschool, will fit small notebooks but will not fit A4 sized materials, has enough room for a couple of notebooks, pencil case and a sweater. Very sturdy and cute too.

Skip Hop is the way to go
I have 4 kids and I have always had Skip Hop with them because of their sturdiness. Today almost all backpacks are junk...they will not even hold for an entire year. I am happy to say that Skip Hop never disappointed me. What I usually do is find them at Carter's and get them in bulk since you can gift them also to friends and family. If you want a sturdy one, get a a Skip Hop
