Kikkerland Biodegradable Paper Straws, Birch

These straws hold up very well and are a lot more attractive than most plastic straws. I'm not overly attentive when it comes to hydration (I know, shame on me, but straws help!), so it's not unusual for one of these straws to sit in a large cup of liquid for HOURS. Here's a quick review of my personal experience with Kikkerland Biodegradable Party Stripes Paper Straws: - Yes, over time, they do lose some of their rigidity but they maintain their shape and usability; no pulpy goop or sagging. It's worth noting that the texture of the straw does soften a bit as the paper becomes saturated. Another review mentioned using these straws at a party and that guests were throwing them away after a few minutes. This is likely because the guests were unsure about the slight change in texture as the straws absorbed some of the drink, NOT because the straws were unusable. Obviously, chewing on a paper straw would severely impact the longevity and integrity of the straw. - Yes, they are biodegradable, compostable, and printed with food-safe ink. - No, the ink does not bleed or stain. I've used these in clear glasses, plastic cups, and white coffee mugs, for hot & cold drinks, without any issue. I've never had issues with stained lips, either! - No, they are not coated with any kind of wax or resin. - In my opinion there is no more of a paper taste than there is a plastic taste from conventional straws. And, for the record, I'm the kind of person who notices whether or not milk/juice was in a cardboard container. - Depending on what you're drinking it may be a good idea to change straws between drinks, i.e., orange juice to milk or rum & coke to a vodka-cran. You'd probably do this anyway, but a sip or two will NOT be enough to transition between drinks if you're down to your last straw. Learn from my mistakes, you've been warned. ;) If I had to complain about anything it would that these straws aren't 'air-tight'. It's not unusual for there to be small air bubbles while drinking. This happens less as the paper becomes saturated, but doesn't go away entirely. Even with this "flaw", they're still great alternatives to plastic straws! A few people have asked about packaging details and verbiage, so I've included some pictures. (Please note that the box and straws arrived perfectly intact. The smooshed'ness didn't happen until after I stuffed the box into the utensils drawer.) *This is a zero incentive review. I paid full price for these straws.

I read all of the negative reviews and still decided to purchase these - and I am so glad I did! I use these all the time when people come over and I always get compliments. I even used them in these holiday drink stocking stuffers I made this Christmas. People who are writing all of the negative reviews are criticizing these for getting soggy - they are PAPER straws, not plastic. These stay sturdier than a lot of other paper straws I have used before and they are great for parties where you are entertaining. I ALWAYS drink out of straws, but would never expect these to last all day. For daily use I choose plastic straws and reserve these for parties, fun iced coffees or when me and my husband make a few cocktails. If you are looking for cute, sturdy paper straws and understand what you can reasonably expect from paper straws, these are a great buy!

People love these little birch straws. And rightly so, they are SO adorable. Used them at a baby shower in mason jars for teas & lemonade. Even the guys started using them in their beers because they are so enticing. Truly look just like birch wood. Plus they biodegrade, so why not!? Great price for 144 straws - we have a ton left over and use them for other parties and get togethers and they continue to be a huge hit. They are paper, however, so start to get a little soft after about an hour! With this many in the package though, you can just grab another.

I ordered these for a woodland birthday party. They are very pretty! But like all pretty things, didn't last very long. Which, I mean, c'mon, they're biodegradable and PAPER. Paper isn't meant to hold up to liquid! They lasted long enough to get through the party, and they added a lot to the decor and feel of the party. That's exactly what I expected, and these straws delivered! Very satisfied.

These are paper and will not last long after drinking with them. That said, I cut these into 1" pieces and my children play with them for quite a while stringing a piece of yarn to create necklaces. They were able to make patterns, sort, and string; all useful for little ones (ranging from 20 months to 5 years). Quality is good and would make a fun addition to a party.

I bought these straws in both the grey and red color. I just love them and use both colors at the same time at parties. Imagine: a mason jar filled with some milk, juice, cocktails, or ice tea finished off with one of these straws. They are just adorable and perfect for a brunch, bridal or baby shower. Even though it's made from paper, it is quite sturdy and the material falls somewhere in between a hard cardboard and card stock paper. If you leave the straw in the drink for too long (past a hour maybe), then it may start getting soggy. But with normal use, it hasn't been a problem for me.

I bought all of these straws at once, so I am going to copy the same review for all of them. They are all well made and extremely uniform. I like that. I did not buy them to use as straws. I have a small bakery in Guasave, Sinaloa, Mexico, and I bought them to use as Cake Pop sticks as they are quite pretty. The different types and colors help me to design dessert tables around my client's theme. They all arrived in the same carton and before they were expected. The ONLY complaint might have been the fault of customs agents. Two of the boxes were opened and the straws were all over the bottom of the box. The box WAS crunched on one corner, so it COULD've been due to the carton crunch. However, the straws, even the open ones, were all in good condition.

Loved these - they are really strong for paper straws and looked fantastic at our Hawaiian themed party in cocktails. Really bright colour and design- very happy.

Super rendu pour mon baptême rétro champêtre, cependant le papier étant assez fin elles se décomposent assez vite sur les parties en contact avec le liquide donc il faut souvent changer de paille. Sinon j'en suis très contente
