Will this work in different Swiss Army knives or just Victorinox?

I’m guessing it would if the corkscrew was the same size as the victorinox.

Dumb question maybe, but I thought a carbon steel (not stainless) for striking sparks. What gives?

Carbon steel will create a spark when struck with a rock that is very hard. Common examples are quarts and flint. This product does not require a specific type of material to create the sparks. Anything that is hard and sharp enough to scrape away the fireant (aka ferro rod) will create the sparks.

Fire fly vs. Fire ant, which is better?

I've found the fire ant to be too small to easily start a fire. I'd recommend the fire fly as the the better choice of the two. But the reality is that neither one is ideal. If you are in a situation where there are no other options then the fire fly can serve the purpose.
